Looking at the 10 gallon pot from Blichmann Engineering to use as a boil kettle over a propane burner for 5 gal batches. This is also being purchased as part of my effort to start all-grain soon as my current pot is too small for that.

Like I mentioned, I'll be doing 5 gallon batches and stepping up to 10 gallon batches is basically out of the question. I've heard gripes about the location of the brewmometer on the 10 gallon pot being too high for 5 gallon batches. Is this a legitimate gripe?

The very distant future may also call for conversion to an electric system, but I'm only mentioning that because it's part of the reason I'm choosing Blichmann. A 5 gallon version of "The electric brewery" is the ultimate goal.

Only reason for asking is the conflicting info I've seen about the location of the thermometer. I'd like to settle any concern before I buy one, NOT AFTER!!

FWIW, I own the 15g version and 7 gallons of water nicely covers the brewmometer. I'd think the 10g version would be scaled accordingly for 5g batches.

Thanks, Z. I wonder if they redesigned after people noted problems, because like i said, I've read conflicting accounts. Also, when looking at pictures it doesn't seem too high up.

Any more input would be welcomed!

Thanks. Looked at that page before and didn't even notice. I guess that one is put to rest. Wallet is lighter already!

The people who complain about it are likely partial boilers. I prefer to boil at 5.75 gal. which puts me at just under 5 gallons by the time my wort is complete.
