    Founders Solid Gold

No, not joking. I don't remember the exact numbers, but the Founders was 6.7 cents per ounce, and I want to say that the PBR was $4.69 for 6x12oz cans = 6.5 cents per ounce. The tall boys were a little more per ounce. At any rate, they were very close, but there's no way that PBR was even close...

    Founders Solid Gold

I paid $12 for a 15 pack. PBR can't even beat that, ounce for ounce (trust me, I did the math!)

    Founders Solid Gold

Yeah, no hard feeling for doing what's best for the business. I think this might signal that Founders has outgrown the "craft beer" market, and they have to figure out what's next. I'm not usually one to take a stance against a brewery for their decisions. If their beer is good, I'll buy it. I...

    Founders Solid Gold

What does everyone think about Founders Solid Gold? They're making a pretty big play to go against the big brewers to the point where I've found this beer retailed next to Bud and Bud Light with a sign that says "Why Not Try a Craft Lager?" Personally, I love All Day IPA, but Solid Gold isn't...

    Is Beer Smith worth it?

I use the desktop app and it was worth every penny of the $20 I spent on it. It’s an invaluable tool for recipe building for me. I’d pay that just to support the Beersmith podcast, which is free.

    Popular Podcasts for Homebrewers

Agreed, but if you go back into the archives, the shows used to be much more beer-focused and a lot less banter and 13-year old BS. For the new episodes, I always skip at least the first 10-15 minutes before they get to the content, but they still provide a lot of good info. I learned an awful...

    A "Leftovers" IPA

I store my hops in my freezer and have used hops much older than that. For my "good" batches I buy fresh, but for my daily drinkers (house english bitter) or beers I'm not too careful about, I've used hops probably a good 12 months old. Makes it hard to really calculate IBUs, but for some of my...

    Camping Beer..

Another vote for Centennial Blonde...that's a killer summer beer that will please the crowd, everyone from the Bud drinker to the craft beer drinker. I made my last couple of batches adding some experimental lemon hops it was amazing, and I'm sure Lemon Drop would be just as good. (and I'm not...

Growing yeast harvested from fellow homebrewer

Hello all, I have a bottle of a homebrewed beer that was brewed using yeast harvested from a bottle of Brouwerij 3 Finteinen Oude Gueze Vintage 1997. The beer was brewed in 2016 and I finally opened it to celebrate the birth of my son! I'm trying to grow up the dregs from this bottle for a...

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

Here's a pic of my brew of this beer, made with equal parts Citra, Mosaic, and Galaxy for all hop additions (150 ppm Chloride, 74ppm Sulfate, Fermented with 1318.) I've named this one Baby PJs, and I have to say, this is one of the best beers that I've brewed in terms of hitting my target...

    Mistake on first brewing test

Congrats on your first brew! What was the cleaner, and how much did you add? If it was a small amount of something non-toxic like starsan (don't know if this is available in powder form), you might be OK. If it was toxic and something like C-Brite, don't risk it.

    I think I screwed up....

I've never used Abbey malt, but the Q&A on Northern Brewer say this isn't a self-converting malt. Did you take any gravity readings after mashing?

Can I make a German Pils with this water?

Thanks, everyone, for your comments. Small world! My wife would move to Maine in a heartbeat! I don't have the grain bill yet, but it'll probably be 95% German Pilsner.

Can I make a German Pils with this water?

I'm only a year into water adjustments and have made mostly IPAs and English beers this past year, but I'm planning on brewing a German Pils and would like to know if I can use my well water or if I'll need to either dilute or use all distilled and build up. My water chemistry is as follows: Ca...

    So who's brewing this weekend?

Brewed a batch of the house beer, a 4% ordinary bitter. Also transferred a batch of NEIPA with Citra, Mosaic, and Galaxy from a dry hop keg to a serving keg. Carbing up now and really looking forward to tasting this one...smells amazing! edit: Also canning some starter wort....gotta get in as...

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

I decided to transfer to a second keg, not because I didn't agree with you, but because I've never used the closed-keg transfer method and I just wanted to try it for fun. This is home brewing, after all!

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

Hey all, I kegged a batch of this yesterday and was attempting the second dry hop in the keg, but unfortunately I now have 3oz if hops in a weighted muslin bag at the bottom of my keg. Should I leave them be, or wait a few days and transfer the beer to a second keg? Not sure how the hops will...

How many gallons of homebrew in 2017?

Thanks for the correction! Guess I need more coffee before trying to do maths.
