    NB American Amber ale flat?

Gelatin can remove the yeast from your beer causing it to not carbonate. I would pick up a packet of dry yeast and add two pellets to each bottle, recap then let them rest for three weeks. Do this one bottle at a time to minimize the chance of airborne contaminants getting into the bottle.

Batch #1 Down, but what's my gravity?

That's a very high reading. It's most likely you didn't get the wort and water mixed well in the fermentor which caused you to get more sugar in the sample which caused the false reading. What was you recipe? If it hasn't been very long since you brewed it, you could remove the airlock and pick...

    Like corny kegs? ;)

    Some Thing On The Top

What you see floating is probably the first signs of fermentation. The yeast are starting to get their groove on. RDWAHAHB!!! ;)

    Please explain a sparge arm

This is so the grains are rinsed evenly and thoroughly by the sparge device and to prevent the sparge water from drilling into the grain bed. You want to control the flow of the hot water onto or out of the mash so that there is an equilibrium in how fast the water is flowing into the mash...

    Bottles are exploding

I'm pretty sure the problem is from unfermented sugars from the fruit fermenting in the bottle, then. When I use fruit, I let it sit for a month just for this reason. The amount of berries and sugar sound right to me, though.

    Bottles are exploding

I know some people have had success doing that but there really isn't any way to know just how much unfermented sugars are left in the bottle. It would most likely result in uneven carbonation from bottle to bottle but it also could prevent bombs. I think it's worth a shot, anyway. Just make...

    Instructions vs Experience

Your suspicions were correct in that 3-4 days is really not enough time to properly ferment the beer. It's enough time for the krausen to drop and the airlock to stop bubbling but that is in no way an indication the yeast are done doing their thing. While yeast are converting the sugars, they...

    Bottles are exploding

No big deal. The internet doesn't relay emphasis very well sometimes.:cross: Anyway, how much fruit did you add to the beer, how long did the beer sit on it and how much bottling sugar did you use? Was the fruit fresh, frozen or canned? If fresh, did you wash it before putting it in the beer?

    Instructions vs Experience

The instructions that come with most kits are very poor and are, in my opinion, why so many new brewers find their kit beers to be less than stellar. There's a lot that goes into making a decent beer that they just don't put in the instructions and a lot of stuff they put in the instructions is...

    Bottles are exploding

That wasn't such a far fetched question. Lots of people bottle in plastic bottles similar to soda bottles. Just because they taste okay doesn't necessarily rule out infection either. Chilling them down should slow fermentation way down but you're going to want to keep them in the crisper or put...

Air getting into beer line (video)

Are your clamps and flare fitting tight? Is the nylon insert for the flare fitting seated properly and in good condition?

    This tastes like scotch?!?

At what temp and for how long did you steep your grains? Were they pre-crushed or did you crush them yourselves?

    Bugs?

The birds are probably just perching on the lattice and crapping as they often do. Take a look at the underside of the leaves and see if any bugs are hiding under there.

Growing hops in planters. Any advice?`

I've used it for tomatoes, cucumbers and beans but never with hops. I don't see any reason why it wouldn't work well, though.

What happened with the BYO's website?

Probably some kind of server issue or something. I was on the site just yesterday but can't get on now. The fact that some can access it while others can't leads me me to believe it's just a tech issue.

My DIY, low-budget, concrete-roller grain mill

Just in case nobody's said it yet, that is pretty damned awesome!!! Kudos to the brew assistant as well.

    solder for flash boiler ?

So regular plumbing solder (the kind one would use when plumbing a house) should be okay then?

Air getting into beer line (video)

Those are great suggestions. Also, it's hard to tell in your video what size and type of tubing are you using for your beer lines. Is it 3/16 beverage tubing? What is the length of the tube and how high must the beer rise to the tap? Have you connected this line to another keg to see if the...
