I want to try Nottingham on my next stout.

    Imperial stout recipe critique

I would think 3 packs of US05 would be plenty. I just did a 1.095 using only 2 packs and it got down to 71% attenuation. Other than the Munich malt which im not as familiar with in a stout everything looks good to me.

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

I am currently drinking my first ever brewed Pilsner after 45 batches. This beer is now sitting at around 7 weeks and getting better by the week. This NZ Pils recipe (courtesy of Dgallo) was hopped with 2oz Nelson and 1oz Riwaka all in the boil, no dry hop. Originally the Nelson wine grape...

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

I'm kicking around the idea of using US05 on my next batch. I couldn't get my hands on any Imperial Juice in time for my next brew day. Anyone make a killer NEIPA using US05? Seems like 05 would come out more bright and crisp.

    Best NEIPA hop combos

Hey guys I'm planning my next NEIPA recipe. I have 10oz Citra and 6oz Strata available, any idea the best way to combine these two? I have never used Strata before, but heard its quite pungent.

Using WLP830 for first Lager attempt

Smelled and seemed ok. The second starter even had a good amount of krausen on the outer edge while on the stir plate. The starter also appeared real murky almost like a NEIPA. I assume a lager ferment will look like a typical ale once it starts rolling or does it remain clear the whole time...

Using WLP830 for first Lager attempt

42 hours in at about 55deg and it looks like nothing is happening. I ended up doing (2)1.5L starters and pitched the entire second starter after 24hours on the stir plate. Looking at my sight glass it’s just clear wort. I have never done a lager before, so I’m used to stuff bouncing around in...

Belgian Dark Strong Ale Westvleteren 12 Clone - Multiple Award Winner

My keg that been in the keezer since July 2019 (16 months) is still not ready! I bottled 20 bottles using a beer gun in March and threw those in the closet at house temp to speed up the aging process. When i popped open the first bottle in June if this year, way better then the keg version, the...

Belgian Dark Strong Ale Westvleteren 12 Clone - Multiple Award Winner

I'm a firm believer in at least 6 months at room temperature.

Using WLP830 for first Lager attempt

Thanks VikeMan! Yes, BS3 does calculate multi step starters. Does the starter temp matter when on the stir plate?

Using WLP830 for first Lager attempt

I ordered online from my LHBS. This is my first lager so I was trying to shoot for a big starter. I was just confused why BS3 and Brewers Friend have two completely different answers. How should I step this up?

Opinions on the new Sabro hop

No i ended up dumping it! I think the malted oats i used had more to do with the issue than the amount of Sabro hops used. I will say 4oz in a 5g batch is definitely the threshold of using in a dry hop addition. I used 4 oz Sabro / 3oz Motueka dry hop in the beer above with Simcoe/Amarillo...

Using WLP830 for first Lager attempt

Hey guys giving my first go at a NZ Pils recipe and using WLP830 for a 5 gal batch 1.051. Got my yeast today and a little disappointed it expired in September and I won’t be brewing till end of October. Brewers Friend yeast calculator says there is no viable yeast! Beersmith says 40% viable. I...

Belgian Dark Strong Ale The Pious - Westvleteren 12 style quad - multiple

Is it me or is there something to putting Belgian beer in a bottle that makes it better? Above I commented that this recipe was disappointing at the 6 month mark so I used a beer gun and bottled 20 bottles. After about 3 months in the bottle a room temp the plum and raisin notes started to...

    Best NEIPA hop combos

Hey guys I kinda fell off the NEIPA train and been brewing W12, RIS, ESB’s but this is what I have on hand. Should I try and blend these in some way or get some Citra and do a Citra/Cashmere or Citra/Strata combo? I have never used either of these and think they would pair well with Citra?
