    Bottling with Brewers Yeast

Hadn't thought about the capper because I bought a new one, just before I found my old one. I'm pretty sure I'm getting a good seal. I can hear a little bit of gas escape when I open them.

    Bottling with Brewers Yeast

The beer does taste sweeter than I think it should. I use towels to shield light and I go by the temp tape on the fermenter. It can take up to 2 weeks or longer for it to completely flocculate. I haven't tried not using a secondary, I'll think about that with my next batch. I put about half of...

    Froze my WLP Yeast

It's been frozen for 24 hours. I was going to make a starter for tomorrow's brewing and discovered the yeast got put in freezer instead of refrigerator. My HBS is closed today. Should I go ahead and try to warm it and make a starter or just toss it and get more tomorrow?

    Bottling with Brewers Yeast

I don't know, hadn't thought about it. Just finished off what I had on hand and started with new bag today.

    Bottling with Brewers Yeast

Boil 3.5 gals wort. Cool to 80 degrees. Add to carboy with 1.5 gals cold water. Pitch liquid yeast when wort is 70, cap and shake carboy vigorously. Put on airlock, kept in room at 70f, wrapped in blanket. Watch for flocculation to complete then check for FG to siphon over to secondary fermenter...

    Bottling with Brewers Yeast

I've been using 3/4 cup of corn sugar but I'm not getting the carbonation I want even after a month in the bottles. So I'm hoping that a little brewers yeast with the corn sugar addition at bottling will help. Tired of drinking flat beer

    Bottling with Brewers Yeast

Will using brewers yeast when bottling give any off flavors? Anyone tried it to get better carbonation?

Help me with my first recipe.

Here's a honey nut beer recipe I've brewed a couple of time. It's the only beer SWMBO likes. Might give you some more ideas. https://docs.google.com/open?id=0B6d_DmGVqhS_bEd4cmRsRlVSNU9lUXFXeHR4QzVhQQ

    Priming with unpitched wort

Thanks Revvy that helped a lot. I don't remember adding more yeast when I bottled, I may have. But this gives me another idea to consider. realbeer.com and another morebeer.com I think we're talking about two different things closely related. morebeer forum "Technically...

    Priming with unpitched wort

Sorry guys but you're talking way over my head. I couldn't figure out how to post the recipe here so I posted the pdf file to google docs at the link below. You don't need a google account or to sign in. If you get a chance and can take a look at it I would really appreciate your...

    Priming with unpitched wort

Going through some old recipes I came across one we really liked and want to brew again. In the notes I wrote that I siphoned off 2 quarts of wort before I pitched the yeast. I put this wort in a growler in the refrigerator until it was time to bottle. I took the growler out of the refrigerator...

How do you name your original recipes?

Thanks everyone I don't feel like such a total goof ball naming beers now. We aren't labeling them because they never stay around long enough to bother. We use a color code of colored caps and those little avery circle stickers to keep track of what batch is what. Working on trying to keep...

    Steeping and Boil times

I've been creating my own recipes and have always just defaulted to 1 hr steeping and 1 hour boil. I've seen others recipes which have shorter or longer times. What effects on the outcome of the beer does changing either or both times? If it makes any difference I steep @160f in 3gals, rinse...

How do you name your original recipes?

My daughter/brewing partner and I have started brewing some of our own concoctions. We haven't come up with a name for our "brewery" yet as I think it's rather silly when we're brewing with extracts and some steeping of grains and adjuncts. Since beers are like pets they have to have names...

    honey nut ale

Take a one for one solution of honey and water. Bring that up to 160 for at least 15 minutes. Add to wort at flame out. This will only add a slight honey note and sweetness as the sugars are fermented out. If you use a lot of honey, definitely use a blow-off tube for your primary. If you want...
