[SPOILERS] Star Wars - The Force Awakens / Rogue One

Saw it yesterday with my wife, we both loved it. A couple observations and theories: 1. I thought Han Solo's death was very anticlimactic. My wife cried like a baby afterwards. Harrison Ford is signed on for at least episode 8. I'm thinking a lot of backstory will be told, so they still...

    Ferm cap

I only use it preboil. Helps with boil over and keeps krausen to a minimum. I haven't used a blow off tube in 2 years with my bucket. I do not measure it either, just squirt it into the kettle.

    Mangrove Jack's Belgian Yeast

UPDATE: This is exactly what I was looking for, except for the 6.8% abv. I was a little worried. Fermentor sample was promising. First keg test after carbing for 2 days was kind of....meh. I thought it was missing something. Now on carb for about a week and it's spot on and full of...

    Mangrove Jack's Belgian Yeast

Good so far. I tried it at 2 weeks and it tasted awesome. Went from 1.054 to 1.006, A little green, but funky as you would expect from fermenting that high. I literally just walked in the door from being on vacation for a week and plan on kegging tomorrow.

    LHBS vs Online

I have 2 excellent LHBS with a half hour of my house in each direction. Lucky Me. Both of their prices are comparable to online if you include shipping costs into the equation. Win/Win for me. I can always get fresh ingredients. The only things I order online these days is equipment.

    Mangrove Jack's Belgian Yeast

I brewed an Belgian Pale Ale with this yeast last sunday. I sachet dry pitch into wort. My blow off was bubbling within 3 hours. I've never had a batch take of that quickly. I decided to ferment this in my garage as it is the warmest place at the house. with the current temps in the 90's...

    Bad Poppet or Bad Regulator.

The other day I disconnected my empty keg to fill and carb. When I got everything back together again and turned the gas on, I set at 30 psi. I checked 10 to 15 minutes later and the psi shot up to almost 50 psi. So I turned the gas to the keg off at the regulator, the the needle on the psi...

What to do with my kegerator now that I'm off alcohol

For me, when I don't drink alcohol, I am drinking seltzer as try to stay away from soda. So you could do legs of carbonated flavored water.

Bottling from Keg Using Perlick 545 Flow Control Faucet

Wow....old post. Just in case anyone is wondering, I opened a bottle of Scottish ale I filled directly from the tap over 5 months ago and it is perfectly carbed, although not a big hiss as I opened it. So you can say that bottling directly from these taps has no ill effect after aging. Secret...

    Summer Stout

Last year, it seemed like every other beer I brewed up was some sort of brown ale. The way its looking, this year every other batch will be some version of a stout. I was thinking of trying to do a version of a dry stout, except using Cascade hops instead of standard european hops. I am...

    Stout recipe question

I know alot of people use carapils for that purpose. Personally, I stopped using it a few years ago and have no issues with head retention.

    Stout recipe question

Flaked Barley should be mashed and Roasted Barley needs to be crushed. I would get rid of the carapils, for your stout it really wont contribute much. I would also switch all extract to DME if you can. It can be a pain to use but will taste better in the end. Just my $.02

    Long Trail Hibernator clone

Which version did you brew? Extract, PM, or all grain? Care to list the recipe? I developed my own recipe to try to "clone" this. It was not exact, but it was tasty. Keg kicked fast.

How to add permanent volume markings to a kettle (illustrated)

Finally got around to getting my kettle done after months of having the supplies. Only took about 2 hours. Could have done better, but proud of myself for the first try.

    Nugget/Summit Amber Ale

Last year I made an amber ale that was probably one of the best I have ever done. I wanted to re-create that malt bill but change up the hop bill. Last years version was bittered with Nugget and later additions of Centennial and Willamette. A few weeks ago I had the Green Flash Imperial IPA...

    Fermcap and fermentation

I have been using fermcap in my batches consistently for the last few years. while i did not notice a slower fermentation start, the but the amount of krausen created is much less then batches where I didn't use it. So yes, it does effect the way fermentation "looks.' I brew all grain and use...
