    Brewing outside

Besides stuff getting into your brew, having a burner with a good amount of heat output will help a lot. I don't know what the rating is on mine but I do know it's nowhere near the BTU of some of the burners sold on the online brew stores. I had to crank that sucker when trying to get it to boil...

    Mmmm sweet wort

Nope, but I am watching the Krausen silhouette creep up the side of the bucket. Kinda neat. I hear it a whole lot more than I see it. It's like an open soda pop fizzing away in the corner of my room. :drunk:

    Mmmm sweet wort

Today was the day I finally had time to crack open my grains and hops and cook up some beer. This is my first batch. An Amber Ale. According to calculations I made using an online recipe calculator my OG should be around 1.053. I hit it RIGHT on the dot. Wasn't expecting that. I tasted...

    Anyone ever drink Kava?

0o0o0o you're lucky, specially if you get to try fresh, green kava. :tank: That stuffs suppose to be a fair amount stronger than any of the powdered stuff we can get in the states. definitely let us know.

    Anyone ever drink Kava?

You won't get any of the affects of kava as a tea. Heat kills the active substance in kava root. When making kava you're not even suppose to use hot water let alone boiling water. Luc-warm water is about as far as you can go without killing the kavalactone. Only use hot water to dissolve...

    Anyone ever drink Kava?

*necropost!*:o Kava tastes pretty earthy on it's own but after the first mouth full I find it's not as noticeable due to the numbing affect. The pills don't do much unless they're the liquid gel caps. They sell the filling for those as "kava paste". Either way powdered root or instant is the...

    My First Amber Ale

Thank you for that suggestion jescholler. I punched that in the calculator and it gave me the same results. I hadn't tackled the issue of boil-off time yet but that gave me a little bit of a starting point. There was another gentlemen on here that I asked about using Munich in this way, I don't...

You know what's really calming is a good beer with some good food. Last time I got antsy I bought myself some Pilsner and a big plate of my favorite sushi. That, ma friend, is a relaxing meal. :mug:

    Hello from CA

I found most of the brewing equipment I would need to start brewing stuffed away and forgotten in the garage. I also got a case of amber bottles for free. I figured hey, why not. I'll learn how to brew some beer. I've been reading a lot and believe I may understand enough to make a pretty good...
