On Friday the 23rd I bottled my first home brew in 14 years. It has been 4 days and I am having a hard time waiting to sample the beer. I want to wait a week but am going crazy to taste one.

I think I have about some 50+ batches under my belt and have tasted many green beers, but the hiatus has been too LONG!

What can I do to calm myself and make it until Friday without opening a bottle?

Oh the suspense!

buy a good craft beer, peel off the label and pretend that its yours. do this while brewing another batch, and bask in the the delusion.

I always crack one open green. Mostly because i have the patience of a 2year old, but also i real do like tasting how much a beer changes while it matures.

If you cant wait, then dont! its your beer, enjoy it!

I did brew another batch and that has helped my keep my patience until now. I even started my yeast farm going. I only have to do my slants and I will be in full production (summer mode).

I have them at 66 degrees now. I am going to chill one down to 50 tonight and pop the top!

Get a 6er of Sierra Nevada and brew another batch.

Then get into your beer tomorrow.

You know what's really calming is a good beer with some good food.
Last time I got antsy I bought myself some Pilsner and a big plate of my favorite sushi. That, ma friend, is a relaxing meal. :mug:

It is too late my friends. My first home brew in what has seemed like a life time is on ice. Flat or not, yeasty or not it is mine and I will indulge here in 15 minutes.

Report to follow.

Well that was refreshing. I just sampled the beer in the bottle after 4.5 days or so. I am really impressed. The flavor of fresh beer is so much better than packaged commercial product its unbelievable.

The beer at this point had a mellow carbonation. It also still has a mild green/yeast flavor to it, but very subtle. No off flavors that I can detect. Light, refreshing Koelsch. Its hitting 90's already here so it should be ready right at the right time!

I think I will sample again on Friday/Saturday or Sunday.

bust in to it... drink 1... I've bottled some beer that while not ready after 4 days, was still quite carbonated, just be sure and have commercial beer as follow up... remember the frito lays commercial... no one can drink just 1!
