the BJCP so called certification drives me crazy

Im not trying to be snide or sarcastic here, Im just trying to understand your point of view. This reads to me like you are saying you are the right and better judge which is a very subjective statement. 5-7 points is a very large margin of difference 5 should be the max difference and 3 is...

the BJCP so called certification drives me crazy

I would be interested in what your definition of world class is. 40 and above is a very good score it means that you are getting down to the finer details of style to make a perfect (world class) beer. I have probably judged a thousand or so beers. I’ve given 1 50 ever to a beer that was...

cinnamon and vanilla beans in a stout

depends where yo are using it. 1tsp cinnamon in boil is noticable 1 vanilla bean soaked in vodka for a few weeks is often enough in the keg. I find using tinctures is an easier way to go post boil. I put 2 tsp cinnamon in a half pint mason jar filled with vodka. i let that soak shaking...

SS Brewtech FTSS on a corny keg?

It would not fit, it is to wide. With some modification I think your best option would be to get a spare lid and drill it out with a step bit to fit the Anvil chilling unit. Their product is a simple but seemingly effective straight u bend stainless pipe that fits a carboy. It is very cost...

Anyone have an old WLP815 Belgian Lager Yeast sitting around?

hmm now that i look at it a little more this may not me the case. It seems that the nano pitch may be the only size available on yeast man which is stupid. White labs seems to be lacking behind Imperial, Omega etc in the the way they cater to the homebrew market of late.

Anyone have an old WLP815 Belgian Lager Yeast sitting around?

You can order this strain directly from white labs now. https://yeastman.com/ They just redid the way they do the vault and Im not sure many home brew shops got the first seasonal strains. Click yeast strains and then vault strains. I recomend the WLP009 and WLP515 which are also available...

    Spike Flex mod

What benefit doest the weld serve? the lid still isnt designed for pressure as is. The manifold is nice nut is pretty useless with this setup. You could accomplish a low pressure transfer with a $15 TC/ball lock fitting. The Flex is in essence a fancier, better built brew bucket that if you...

Bulk grain storage in warm & humid environment

I am in florida where humidy hovers around 200% and keep my grain in a semi insulated garage. The temperatures are usually mid 80's in the garage but I open it regularly to brew. I use home depot buckets with gamma seal lids for my bulk grains and snaplock tupperware (get it at TJ Maxx) for my...

the BJCP so called certification drives me crazy

In general you wont get a true evaluation of a beer until it has been critiqued multiple times. And to be certified in the BJCP you don't need to do a ton. National and beyond is where you start to see the most informed opinions in my opinion. That being said: Do you know how your entry was...

    A question about Brett.

Omega All the bretts has at least 1 brett strain that does ferment lactose. I have used it in secondary with a lactose beer that didnt turn out as i hoped. When i pitched all the bretts the beer was 1.024 and the beer got down to 1.002 before I packaged.

First attempt at fermenting in Corny Keg - utter fail

what temp was the wort when you put it in? Im assuming the wort was warmer than 56 and you sucked the bucket up as you crashed down to 56. In order to prevent this dont attach a blowoff before you are at 56 for your wort temp also before you attach your blowoff release any negative pressure...

    Malt substitute

British crystal malts are quite distinct to me. I prefer them overall but you can certainly sub out domestic malts. If you have access to carastan that would work well here. Otherwise you can use either c30 or c40. Another option would be a 50/50 blend of c30 and c40

    WLP009 Austrailian Ale alternative vendors

Not sure what white labs is doing with their vault and seasonal releases. I have been trying to get my hands on this strain for awhile now but haven't had any luck. Anyone know of any other manufactures that have it under another name?

    Growler Conditioning

If you have some small bungs you could just un cap them toss an airlock on and let the sugar ferment out then repackage them with new priming sugar. If you have bottles now you could probably just rack into your bucket and re-package those growlers. most of your sugar is probably still in...
