in hind sight, i did leave a bunch of this, what i thought might be messed up, wort in the mash tun. after cooling, some of it still existed and has mostly settled in 3 carboys 9 days later. mahalo
Recipe builder used to rough in recipe, yes. (Brewers Friend)
Circulating batch sparge.
Mash temp was low, approx 142' and sparged with 170'.
Hand crushed grains in mill and tried to keep them from turning to flour.
OG reading was 1.043

To be clearer; these well made beauties would be great for fresh hop filtration and wayward stray grains. They won't clear wort of any proteins or cloudiness. These are a bit heavy and will add weight to lines so consider a mount or support of some sort.
Lastly and to answer your original...
Last week I brewed my first all grain batch. 40 lbs of grain mostly 2 row. I had 30 gallons of water and ended up with 15 gal in fermentors.
There are 2 things i need to know.
1. What is this protein looking glub that formed in my wort and how do i avoid?
2. How can i be more efficient and...
Surprisingly nobody has said anything about Nottingham yeast. Was the first one i tried after Safale 05 and have used it a few times since. I like it. Easy and strong like 05.
I also have used some Kviek yeast a few times but it leaves my beers on the hazy side which i'm not really into.
they would work well with fresh hops. not gonna stop and proteins but would collect any loose grain. it is solidly built and on the heavy side so might need a support.
My buddy bought a Blichmann electric Herms 1 BBL system and all we could do was read the instructions which may have been translated from Chinese. The water test produced a bunch of leaks so those were dealt with first. Between a few emails, some missing parts and a little experience I went at...
Just discovered this thread but our owner asked today if we could make a beer like Barrel Brewing Co's 'Sunny Daze'. I see it has wheat, lactose and citrus adjuncts with Mandarina Bavaria Hops but if you have a bit more insight I'd love to hear about it as I narrow in on a recipe in hopes of...
love this magazine as i learn much from the old articles and new. took the handcuffs off
and tried brewing a darker beer and was pleasantly surprised. gonna try a bigger batch
and split between yeasts next.
Bought a 4" wide cylinder that attached to my system with 1.5" tri clamps.
It came and was way too big for my 14 gal set up so i brought it to the lab to add to our new 1 BBL system.
Went back and bought the smaller 3" wide cylinder for my 14 gal (pictured)
Thanks Brewers Hardware. #cheers
