    Brew Shoes

So, just for consideration, conventional wisdom has pointed to supportive shoes for such problems. As a runner, I used to struggle with pf and achilles problems regularly. These problems went away as I made a gradual switch to more minimal, flat, non-supportive shoes. I can't speak to whether...

    Made in USA Brew Kettle?

Yes, the Boilermaker G2 pots under 30 gallons are made in the USA.

    Bucket fermenter storage post brew

I mix up a few gallons of PBW and let it, along with everything else that needs to be cleaned soak in it for about a half hour. I then dip a soft cloth in the PBW and gently wipe the sides of the bucket above the water line. After that, I rinse everything out well and allow to dry before storing.

Lewisburg Event Near Bucknell University Sat 11-15 2pm

Sorry I didn't see this earlier. I need to check this forum more often. I live in Lewisburg, work at Bucknell, and am the president elect for the PA Alers Homebrew Club, one of the local clubs. We had a meeting on Friday, so I could've mentioned it. At any rate, what's your book about and...

    Beer Bug

Apparently this has been around for a little while, but I apparently missed it. Anyway, Morebeer is carrying it now. I'm interested in the features, but it's fairly expensive. Does anyone have any experience with it? If you're unfamiliar, it reports gravity, temperature, and alcohol %...

    My Yeast Froze

I had a vial freeze once. It was no big deal. My starter fermented as well as it always does. I did make the starter a little bigger to account for the assumed 10% reduction in viability.

CM Becker disconnect vs. "off brand"

Interesting. The items I got are the standard colors and look identical in every way except there's an S instead of CMB on the side.

CM Becker disconnect vs. "off brand"

Oh, I've also had the threads on these corrode (flared). Not sure what that's all about.

CM Becker disconnect vs. "off brand"

I've noticed these cropping up too. Do they have an S with a circle around them? I haven't had problems with leaks but they don't fit as well in my experience. I've been throwing them away. Fortunately I only have a couple. Kegconnection specifically mentions that they only sell CM Becker, so...

    Sterilock - Waterless antibacterial airlock

This is a potentially an awesome product. I was thinking about how great a dry airlock would be when I was chilling a lager down to pitching temperature in my fermentation chamber. I habitually put an airlock on that froze solid. I hope this is successful!

    Grain mill

Congrats! Great mill. It's really nice to be able to crush your own grain. It also allows you to buy sacks of grain and save some money.

    Grain Mill

Similar to Monster is Crankandstein. Both sell items such as hand cranks and hoppers separately since a lot of people tend to motorize and build custom stands and hoppers. Also check out the JSP Malt mill. I think you'll find that most everyone is happy with whatever mill they bought, which is...

    Best Grain Mill

Based entirely on experiences of people I know, I believe you would be happy with a CrankandStein, Monster Mill, JSP MaltMill, or a Barley Crusher. While there are a lot of people with complaints about their Barley Crushers, I know a number of people who have been using theirs for years...

Small rust spot on new stainless pot

+1 on Barkeepers Friend. It will clean rust right off. As I understand it, stainless can rust, though it isn't the stainless that is actually rusting. Rust means that it was contaminated with another metal that does rust. Barkeepers Friend will remove that contamination. Since it's new, I'd...

    Shiny New 10-gallon G2

I've found mine to be accurate at room temperature and at boil. I've never tested it through the range, though. Consider contacting Blichmann about it.

Can I use a 10 gal Mash tun cooler for 5 gal batches?

I use a 10 gallon cooler for 5.5 gallon batches all of the time. Works great and I can fit a mash in for a big beer. :mug:

    Traditional Bock

All, I've never brewed a traditional bock before, but am planning to for my next brew. I've put the recipe below together which sounds pretty good to me, however, it's a bit on the light (color) side. I'm looking for suggestions on perhaps darkening it up. Maybe a small Carafa Special...

    Boiling the Chiller

Mine is in for the entire boil. I use a hop spider and it's just easier to have the chiller in place rather than try to move a very hot hop spider around.

    Why Dry?

I haven't dried any sanitized items. As long as you're using food grade, no-rinse sanitizer, I can't imagine why it would need to dry.

boil the wort chiller in wort?

Mine actually goes in for the whole boil. I found that to be easier than dealing with trying to move a very hot hop spider out of the way toward the end of the boil, plus my boil doesn't get interrupted when I drop the chiller in.
