Fermenting in a refrigerator placed in a cold garage.

I was running both the heat lamp and the frig at the same time. I will be ordering a two stage controller, but I believe that the refrigerator will not kick in at all. So, could I simply use my Johnson single stage and have it control the heat source and forget about the frig aspect?

Fermenting in a refrigerator placed in a cold garage.

I think this is the real issue. I had been away for a few days during most of the fermentation and the temp was 64F when I got back.

Fermenting in a refrigerator placed in a cold garage.

I have my 15 gallon conical placed in a temperature controlled refrigerator. That refrigerator is located in my garage where the ambient temp is around 45F. My Ranco controller works very well in the warm months as it controls the refrigerator. It does not provide the heat needed to get up...

    ProMash database?

It is my understanding, and BTW I have never used it, is that it was/is a well respected program that has not been supported in a number of years. IMHO I would recommend you look elsewhere. I like Beersmith and do recognize there are other quality programs out there.

    A Brewing Water Chemistry Primer

Maybe I am being too picky here. If I am, please let me know and I will release my ADD. I am going to brew a classic Amber Ale. How do I figure out what additions based upon the above info I need? I have sought to find the water style I need but am unable to find it.

Transferring carbonated beer from keg to bottle.

I stopped at one of my local home brew shops. It is one of the large ones you most likely know of. Talking to a staff member, I mentioned I would like to transfer beer from a keg to bottles. I want to make a six pack or two to take to events, parties, competitions etc. His solution was a...

What's your cost of a 5 gallon batch?

All grain with the power of bulk purchasing through your local home brew club. I just brewed a 15.50 gallon American Amber for $53.55. That includes $13.50 for LP gas and $9.45 for the water I must purchase. By washing yeast and buying hops and malt through my club my beer is costing less...

As I search for a Louie's Demise clone this is the only thread that shows up in the search at this site. Anybody have the recipe for an all grain version? Thanks

Why not more interest in 10 gallon batches?

I began this hobby on my stove. I moved to a three tier system in my garage. Then I went to a five gallon single tier with pump on my patio. As I did so I knew I would move to a ten gallon system so I began building what I needed to do so. I converted from LP gas to natural and set a goal...

What is the closest Wisconsin town to Minneapolis that i can buy new glarus beer?

If you are traveling on I-94. Menomonie has a store not far off the interstate. Marketplace is the name. From the interstate travel south to the first set of lights and take a right. Pick up some Rush River or the beer brewed right in Menomonie from Lucette brewery. Both IMHO are better...

Does anyone else think Sam Adam's beer sucks

I don't drink Sam Adams. Nor do I drink any Jacob Leinenkugel products even though it is local to me. Are they bad beers? I don't know because I stopped drinking them a long time ago. Why? Well, it is simple. There are so many options available today. Why is that? IMHO it was the...

    Where did we go wrong?

IMHO, people use the word, "infection" too soon. From what you say, you should be fine. Go back and in your own mind confirm what you have said above. If you are using clean equipment and you have sanitized everything you should be fine. You said you hit your numbers. I assume your...

Need help locating a sealing washer for mash tun.

One thing to keep in mind is that you need not crank a sealing washer down. A snug fit may just do the trick. If you still have the one that came with your original piece of equipment you may want to try again. Good luck.

    Propane burner gas lines.

Take measurements as well as pictures of your rig. Take them to a Home Depot type of store and explain what you want to do. You will get what you want.

    Problem using silicone tubing

I used some sort of metal clamp for awhile. I had trouble with air leaks and somebody told me to try using small zip ties. I use two at each fitting and do not tighten them too mush. Have had zero problems since.

    Cheapest Sanitizer

Mix up your starsan using distilled water. Clean everything with cleaning chemicals, rinse and sanitize with the Star San. Return the Star San to a glass container and reuse for almost ever. Every now and then check the PH level. If your gut says dump it, do so.

5L Flask - Need stir plate advice

I use a 5L flask for building my starters. My starters are usually in the 2.5L range. I currently use a homemade stir plate and want to get a new one. I found one from Bell's General Store and am wondering if anybody has experience with it. Specifically, will it work with my 5L flask...

    5 Gallon Batch

Agree with the above on chilling. I would extend that to temperature control through the fermentation process. The more volume you are handling the more issues arise relating to how to handle that volume.
