Isolated Yeast (Tree House): How to Identify and Characterize?

Had Hurricane a few weeks ago. Knocked my socks off. But a bit disappointed with the Green, yes.

Isolated Yeast (Tree House): How to Identify and Characterize?

I'm taking another another shot at this tonight, with the staggered pitch, only I'm subbing Munich for the WB-06. Citra and mosaic for hops, 2 row/white wheat/carafoam/a little 15 Crystal.

American IPA Trilium Melcher Street Clone

For my last several batches, I've aimed for low Ca (30-40) and CaCl around 100-125. No issues with highish Mg. I think soft water is important to hit the target profile, but that's just my taste buds.

Isolated Yeast (Tree House): How to Identify and Characterize?

So I'm happy to report that my last attempt yielded much better success - the staggered pitch worked pretty well, added some complexity at the finish, and I'm very happy to report there is no tartness. It's only been in the keg for 4 days, but fingers crossed it stays that way. Important to...

Pressurized Closed Loop Corny Keg Fermenting

Revisiting an issue discussed upthread - for my last brew I ran a tube from the top of my conical to the serving keg to purge it using fermentation gas. After 5-6 days of fermentation (and presumably a near O2 free keg), I cold crashed but left the tube in place, assuming that it would suck back...

    Tropic Thunder NEIPA

I'm posting solely to commend the Tropic Thunder references. Fantastic work!

Isolated Yeast (Tree House): How to Identify and Characterize?

Yes, that was a conundrum, since I wanted to keep temps low for S-04 but raise them for the T-58. I pitched the T-58 around 1.024 or so, and in 24 hours it was at 1.012. Edited to add - no 02 was added before either pitch.

Isolated Yeast (Tree House): How to Identify and Characterize?

I've got a batch carbing up that was fermented at 63 for 4 days (mix of 1318 and S-04), then added 2g or so of T-58 and ramped temp to 70 for a day to finish fermentation. Hoping to avoid the tartness from previous attempt with S-04. Should have an answer in a week.

Isolated Yeast (Tree House): How to Identify and Characterize?

How did you rack the beer to the kegs?

Isolated Yeast (Tree House): How to Identify and Characterize?

I will give it a shot and report back. I understand what you're saying about giving the S-04 a big head start, but we're only looking for modest contributions from the other two, right?

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

I did it probably 8+ times. I did tend to combine the old white collars with the new rubber gaskets, which helped keep it more airtight, but mot perfect.

Isolated Yeast (Tree House): How to Identify and Characterize?

Question - it seems like most people using the trio have either pitched warm, and then dropped the temp, or stayed at a cooler temp throughout. I'm considering pitching the S04 and keeping it cool for the first 3 days (to avoid tartness), and then add the other two while raising temps to 72-73...

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

I did closed transfers under pressure using a BMB. You do need to keep a hand in the lid, but 1-2 psi does work. Use a lid with two holes. Metal racking cane in one hole, with tubing attached to keg quick disconnect. In other hole, you put a hollow rubber bung. Stick a MFLto hose barb in the...

SS Brewtech Conical Racking Arm Issue

    Very helpful, thanks.

SS Brewtech Conical Racking Arm Issue

I just finished my first fermentation with a new Brewtech conical. Before cold crashing, I rotated the racking arm downward to avoid filling it with hops and yeast, then rotated it back up for transfer to keg. When I started pulling things apart to clean the conical, I found that that first...

Isolated Yeast (Tree House): How to Identify and Characterize?

Thanks for the feedback. If you could control temps, would you try a different fermentation schedule? Not sure what you're using for a fermenter, but when I used a plastic carboy in the guest bathroom I used the Cool Brewing jacket - worked pretty well. Even did a lager, which was a PITA.

Isolated Yeast (Tree House): How to Identify and Characterize?

Do you think the small amounts of T58 and WB06 added something that 1318 could not achieve on its own?

    Conical Causing Carbonation?

Thanks, I brewed for years before this with a Big Mouth Bubbler, and although I knew the lid was leaky, I didn't realize how bad it was. After I transferred to the keg, I would use the beer leftover in the jumper line for a final gravity check and it was always super flat.

    Conical Causing Carbonation?

As the title indicates, I'm a little surprised but it appears my beer is carbing up a bit while it's fermenting in my new 7 gal SS conical. I've been capturing the C02 from the top of the conical to purge the serving keg, running a blow off tube from the serving keg into a container if...

Pressurized Closed Loop Corny Keg Fermenting

Turns out it was a loose hose barb...had the wrong size for the tube I was using. Doh! Fixed that, and it started bubbling right away. Awesome! Thanks
