Asked Sierra Nevada Brewing about Torpedo Extra IPA Recipe. Here it is!

Just had a 'Torpedo' yesterday - nice brew. Gonna have to try out this recipe. Costs $13/6 pack here in Central TN at Wally-world! Thanks for sharing the recipe.

    Hop Characteristics?

Is there someplace on HBT or on the web that might identify all of the various characteristics of the many hops available? Right now I'm drinking an APA that says .... "This classic APA displays the complex bitterness and aroma of the hops from Yakima Valley, WA. It boasts a fragrant bouquet of...

We no need no stinking beer gun...

THX, I'll see if I can do that - we've very little room in here, the only freezaer is in the top of the fridge, the freezer is usally full of frozen veggies (we live month to month), but I will see if I can freeze enuff bottles to fill a plastic garbage can with water and try chilling the beer...

We no need no stinking beer gun...

I thought about that, so I tried to let off some pressure to prime in the keg ..... no bueno! I've been trying to bleed off the pressure for days, and all I get is foam! I've taken off about 2 gallons of the beer so far, (fill gallon bottle with foam, put in fridge till foam subsides, fill to...

We no need no stinking beer gun...

No, as I said, it's not cold nor carbed. That's why I asked for the info that I posted. I have no way to chill it, and it was 91F outside today, so the AC is working overtime just trying to keep up. I wonder if one of those counter-pressure caps would work like BierMuncher's rig does? See this...

We no need no stinking beer gun...

So, Here's a few questions for you all .... prior to this, I used two kegs for wine I brewed in Montana before I moved down here to Tennessee. The wines were still, so I didn't need the carbonation. One other keg had a stout, which I was never able to fully carbonate, (my gauges screwed up and I...

    element position

My problem with those 5500's was that they were too long to fit in my brewpot. Since I have to buy a new brewpot now, I'll make sure that it will accept the 5500's!

    Turkey fryer

I use an electric turkey fryer (uses oil) that I got cheap at the AMVETS store. It will hold about 4 gallons of water/grain mixture for the mash and 4 gallons of wort for the boil, and I use the basket (included with the fryer) to keep the brew-bag off the heating element on the bottom. It just...

    element position

Having been an appliance tech previously, if the element touches the bottom, it could create a hot spot which would cause the element to burn out at that spot. (The same thing happens when an element in your range droops and touches the floor of your oven). 1" is a good choice, that's where I...

Starsan How long is it good for?

I read somewhere - a long time back, that it keeps for about 30 days - so I've been changing it out every other brew or 30 days, whichever comes first. I just looked at the label and there's no stale date shown - anything under 3.5 pH huh? Thanks for that info - now to get some pH strips ..... A...

Wild Range IPA, World Brews, Rochester, NY

Just bought a sixer of this cheap IPA at ALDI's for $6.99. I'd like to find out what kind of hops they use, but their websites are just placeholders, not sites! If you have ever tried or bought this beer, let me know what hops you think they use, since most of what I've read on BeerAdvocate has...

The Big Boys are Dukeing it Out!

I just saw this, kinda funny, the poor babies are both losing market share - 'bout time they admitted it! MillerCoors sues Anheuser-Busch over corn syrup ads https://www.foxbusiness.com/media/millercoors-sues-anheuser-busch-over-corn-syrup-ads :bravo: I don't think they're accounting for...

    Sparging @ 180F?

Is that maybe because I hit the word 'quote' first? It mentions a multi-quote, but nothing shows up so then I remember to highlight and click on reply, which gives me the quote. I'll get it one of these days - thanks!

English Porter Black Pearl Porter (AG)

I've never used either one in my porters or stouts (not counting milk stouts), but since I've been trying to clone Pig's Ass Porter from Belt, MT for a few years, I might try some malto-dextrine in the next batch. I came mighty close the last time I tried, but it's one of those ballpark things...

    New Anvil Bucket Fermentors

Just a personal note ... whenever I have to use a larger sized hose over a smaller one like you're doing there, I like to insert a short piece of copper/stainless tube inside the smaller hose, just to keep the clamp from collapsing the inner hose and to make sure the clamp is able to tighten...

    Sparging @ 180F?

Gave me a chuckle - Thanks for the post and the chart! Much appreciated! @ San Pancho, z-bob, and doug 293cz - BTW, I don't know why most of my post above turned red, I even copied and pasted to Libre deleted it and re-did it, using black font - for some reason it still turned out red. I must...
