London Ale WLP013 and Fining with Gelatin

I have several recipes where I use the London Ale Yeast WLP013 and Irish Red and Spiced Ale. I typically cold crash & Gelatin to clarify my beers and works great. However when it comes beers where I used WLP013 the Gelatin really doesn't seem to drop the yeast out as fast. This is also...

10 Gallon Batch, 2 carboys and getting 1 big starter to split evenly

So when it comes to getting the best results out of your beer yeast pitch rates are vital. This area is my next stop on improving my craft. I do 10 gallon batches but like to split between 2 carboy/buckets because I do not care move around 10 gallons around. I start with one vial of yeast...

Did Blichmann Just Change Their Beer Gun Tip Design?

I just want to get an extra one to have on hand in case of the dropped it down the drain, lost it, stopped sealing, etc. That is when I noticed the ones pictured for sale didn't match the one I had.

Did Blichmann Just Change Their Beer Gun Tip Design?

This is a side by side comparison. It definitely changed. It seems much more secure. I can't even take it off unless I take the whole thing apart. I guess if I order more I would need to be very detailed in my order so they would not send me the wrong version. There is a metal post going...

Did Blichmann Just Change Their Beer Gun Tip Design?

I recently purchase a Blichmann Beer Gun. I haven't used it yet. I noticed there is a change to it that is different. Has anyone seen this design yet? From what I heard there were a lot of complaints about the tip falling off/not staying on. Perhaps this design is a response to those...

    Cigar City Jai Alai Clone

I was in Orlando with the Family for vacation. I picked up a Sixer to enjoy in the hotel. Boy was it delicious. I am definitely brewing some of this since I don't think I can get it in the Cleveland area.

My Yeast Are Climbing the Walls!

Also I will add that the yeast is not suspended it clinging to the walls. A couple movements of the carboy after this picture was taken and all of the yeast settle out to the bottom.

My Yeast Are Climbing the Walls!

That is interesting cannman. To give the back story, this is an Irish Red with WLP013. This is one 1/2 of a 10 gallon batch (other 5g was in a white bucket). I stepped up a single vial using a starter in one vessel. 1.2 L then second step 2.7 L. I tried to split it evenly between the two but...

My Yeast Are Climbing the Walls!

Well, not really Climbing but they are clinging to the side of my carboy. I have had this happen before long the ribs of the carboy. I read somewhere is was due to static electricity. I recently started using a 2" foam board temp controlled fermentation chamber. This picture shows...

Good Beer Gone Bad in Keg

kh54s10 you are correct. It was determined to be carbonic bite/carbonic acid. However, The purge burps where not enough per doug293cz's posting. In a short enough time the beer will start to oxidize.

Good Beer Gone Bad in Keg

You are right. I suspect, however, it may be long gone before it creeps in. Let the race begin :mug: That is fantastic information. Also, I read this: If CO2 is so heavy, why doesn't it sink and suffocate us? This explains in principle that CO2 blankets is really a misnomer. Sounds...

Good Beer Gone Bad in Keg

I think that is it. The "Shake and Bake" carb method might of got me in trouble here along with the colder than appropriate serving temp (from cold crashing). I perceived the bitterness as being something tart since might of over carbed the beer. This was probably the case and didn't help...

Good Beer Gone Bad in Keg

Hello Everyone. In the spirit of keeping this question simple. Let me start the story with a perfectly tasting cold crashed APA still in the fermenter. After 3 weeks of a primary fermentation, 4 day dry hop and 1 day Cold crash the 35 degree beer was sampled and auto siphoned in the keg...

Once had Acetobacter. Now I have great head retention/lacing. Correlation?

So for the longest time I was under the belief that all I need to do was run some Star-san through my CFC prior to using to only running hot water through it to clean it afterward. Once in a while I would pump PBW through it to give it a deep clean. After my first competition (LHBS choose the...

When yeast starter doesn’t necessarily grow yeast.

Love it. Thanks for the feedback. :mug: Brew a one gallon batch to propagate your yeast. I like it! I have found running through calculated scenarios that growing yeast and confining yourself to a small vessel should only be done if you don't have a choice. In the future I will be...
