Portland, Or. help me tap my beers!

I have considered it, it's another $35 on "brew gear" in my mind. I know it's worth it, but.... Not right now. I just need someone's brain & maybe their arms.....for dinner :)

    Batch Sparging habits

Hey Denny, Mr. Batch Sparge! You've shown me the ways. Question: is 2X grinding grain worth the trouble to get a better efficiency? I only do it cuz I've noticed a bit of my grain bill not cracked at all when I finally dough in. So I thought if I double crush my grain at my lhbs, I might...

Should I wash this yeast again?

He's right. But I like to wash my yeast maybe 2X to get the best cells together. This = RDWHAHB.

    Immersion/stick blender to areate wort

Totally. Vortex it does! I don't feel good about completely submerging it, just enough to vortex & create a huge foam on top of the wort. I figure w/ a giant blanket of foam (tiny bubbles) on top, I'm getting enough oxygen to dissolve back into the beer, without shaking the **** out of it.

Portland, Or. help me tap my beers!

Anyone interested in maybe helping a dude set up a keg system? What I need is someone to literally show me what's up. Reading about it just gets confusing w/ all the variations. I got a full tank, 2 ball-lock kegs, brews working, hoses, connects, distributer, regulator... I'm just a lil...

    Immersion/stick blender to areate wort

Anyone else use one of these to add oxygen to their pre-pitched wort? Just looking for feedback. A little concerned about possibly adding too much oxygen... Fairly new to this brewing thing, but any feedback is good feedback. Thanx y'all!

Aeration / Olive Oil / Efficiency

I have not done a side by side. Sometimes I use oo, mostly I just use my stick blender to foam up the wort. If anything, I think I'm getting over-attenuation. Maybe too much oxygen...

Any advice for a rookie IIPA brew?

I guess it could be used for protein shakes. They cost about $40 at any Fred Meyer or whatever. I'd buy one just for aeration. Or buy one for anything kitchen. They are indispensable tools! And it's made my brew day so much more fun.

Aeration / Olive Oil / Efficiency

I've done it. It works. It's weird, for sure. I burned a safety pin white hot, wiped it clean with alcohol, dipped it in some EVOO, shook it off, dipped just the tip of the pin into my wort, and made a couple of good beers. Just sayin'.

    Batch sparging confusion

Hey dude. I batch sparge with a little less water than my mash volume at boiling or just under. One sparge addition in a standard picnic cooler. I'm sure it's the same as yours. I hit all my numbers within a couple points, but I 2X grind my grain at my lhbs. I get pretty dang good efficiency, I...

Any advice for a rookie IIPA brew?

Hey dude. I aerate with an immersion blender. Some call it a stick blender. I just sanitize that thang, and dip it in enough to create a heavy foam in the wort. It seems to work for me, but I'm also a noob working out the kinks, so take it for what it's worth. Dunno mang. If you got an immersion...

    No chill chill

I realize my previous post is on the wrong forum. Shucks. It was my 1st post here. Here's my 2nd: I've been No-Chilling my brews with excellent results. I ferment in plastic. Im very very clean & careful. Wash & repitch my yeast (my house strain: WLP001+WLP007). Temp control. I do a sort of...
