I brewed a big barley wine yesterday. I harvested a lot of wyeast 1056 from previous batches and had been saving the yeast for this massive beer. I made a starter 3 days before I pitched the yeast. This morning when I woke up, one of my carboys was already at high krausen while the other carboy...

Manifold for coleman cooler mash tun

So I just fashioned myself a cooler mash tun and I made a manifold on the bottom with some PVC piping that I drilled small holes into. I had issues with the piping getting clogged during the sparge and even during the transfer of wort to the kettle. I had the manifold with the holes facing up...

    Water

I just listened to the brewstrong episodes regarding water and I have become a little concerned with my water choices. If you had to chose distilled or spring water for ales and lagers what would you go with?

I brewed some beer away from home with some friends during the holidays and now I am getting ready to head back. Is it alright to put my beer into kegs, hit with 30psi and expect the beer to carbonate a little bit as I drive home. I don't plan to leave the gas connected in the car. I just...

First time brewer...i have a few questions...

When I put my beer into my bucket or carboy and after I pitch my yeast I fill an old clear bottle half way, like a corona bottle or old coke bottle and monitor fermentation from their. I stick a little bit of paper towel in the top of the bottle...
