    Grape juice wine

I have been on a slight rampage of fermenting anything I can get my hands on. Most recently, I bought some grape juice from costco, put it in a 1ga carboy, 2lb sugar, ec1118 yeast, nutrients on day 2-4-6. It's been a month now, fermentation is still hanging on but basically done. I haven't...

    Where to share your mead?

I was thinking of marking it "flavored vinegar" as something that would be permitted and believable, but no one would be interested in.

    Where to share your mead?

Thanks to covid, PA's state liquor stores started shipping booze, and they always use UPS. To receive the booze, a person that is 18+ needs to accept the package (the first time, after that they just started leaving the boxes). So there must be a way to ship. A friend of mine asked me to ship a...

Poll: Do you have, or plan to get, an electric car?

It's not just an infrastructure issue though. Even if you had as many charging stations as there are gas stations, the time it takes, there will still be extreme bottle necks and it's going to take to long. 30 minutes is just not acceptable. An what's worse is actually doing that type of...

Poll: Do you have, or plan to get, an electric car?

It's not though. If eveyrone in an apartment complex went out and bought an EV, it takes to long to charge, they couldn't use it. If 20 cars are lined up at a gas station with 4 pumps, and each person takes 3 minutes to fill up, that line is cleared in 15 minutes for all 20 people. If 20 cars...

Poll: Do you have, or plan to get, an electric car?

That number may be accurate. But i think it may be skewed when you take into account single family homes typically have 4+ people living in htem, including children, where apartments have less population density per unit. I'm not saying htat's the case, but there are a lot of conditions that can...

Poll: Do you have, or plan to get, an electric car?

I'm not saying it's founded, but in 40 years i've never had a gas car burst into flames. I've also never had an ev burst into flames, but my time with an ev is considerably less than gas cars, so i can only go by what i hear on the news.

Poll: Do you have, or plan to get, an electric car?

Yes that would be easier. But my panel box is on the far side of the house and my entire back patio is concrete, so I had to go around the long way. I picked the worst possible configuration. This is not to scale but gives you an idea. The red is the power line because the grey boxes are...

Poll: Do you have, or plan to get, an electric car?

I agree that americans generally are not a fan of little ecobox vehicles, or at least I thought. Lately I'm seeing them everywhere, and it's a bit shocking. If one of those things runs under my truck, they're done. I would never drive one, but if folks want to, it's their money. If a honda fit...

Poll: Do you have, or plan to get, an electric car?

150' of 2-2-2-4 direct burial wire, a trencher for a day. I do not have 220v in my shop, just a 20a 110v line. Which I was using to charge on level 1. However winter came and it would pull 1500w, but only 400w would make it into the battery, rest went into conditioning the battery and the...

Poll: Do you have, or plan to get, an electric car?

There is an EA charger, the only fast charger in my area. It charges 20-80% in ~30 minutes. It takes me 6% of my battery to get there, around 20 miles. So after I charge my car to 80% and drive home, I'm already at 74% I can also charge at home, with a 40a charger i'm in the process of...

Poll: Do you have, or plan to get, an electric car?

I have no political bias regarding BEV's. I have one, and 5 gas cars, and 2 diesel trucks. They each suit different purposes. I think prices will come down with time, just like the personal computer once started at $2500. Technology advanced, things became more streamline, and prices came down...

Poll: Do you have, or plan to get, an electric car?

Why do we need widespread adoption? Why just let hte industry die or survive on it's own? People that want battery, get battery. People that want gas, get gas. If you want a steam powered car, that should be your choice. There's no need to be pushed in one way or another, folks can make their...

So what did you do with your OTHER hobbies today?

For me it's "while I still know where all the parts are". I swear they grow legs and run sometimes.

So what did you do with your OTHER hobbies today?

That they do. When we dropped off our second at college, my wife was sad at the empty house and said lets make more.

So what did you do with your OTHER hobbies today?

I trenched from the house to the shop to run power, water, and internet. Last july. Today I finally closed it up. My boy watched with a great deal of concentration. When it was time to break for dinner, he insisted on sitting on the tractor. It was all my wife could do to get him off.

So what did you do with your OTHER hobbies today?

You are speaking to me on a deeper level. I have so many projects that are 90%. Just a bit more work and it would be done, but I can't be bothered. I hate myself for it sometimes.

Poll: Do you have, or plan to get, an electric car?

If i were to buy a tesla, it would be a model 3 base. That particular car has LFP batteries instead of NMC. LFP batteries are heavier and have lower charge and discharge thresholds. However they don't have that pesky thermal runaway issue, and they have 3+ the cycles of NMC. I use LFP for my...
