    Boiling water through pump

Also, I won’t be using with any stoppage. In other words, the liquid will flow freely from below the mash basket to the top of the mash. Then when cooling, again circulating from the valve to the top of the liquid. For cleaning, I’ll be circulating from a hot kettle to my keg... just through the...

    Boiling water through pump

Thanks! It’s definitely not braided, what I purchased.

    Poppets not flush with posts

Subject says it all. I replaced old poppets with “universal” ones, and now the poppet sticks up a little above the post, maybe 1mm. Concerned that this may cause a Co2 leak. Aren’t the poppets supposed to be flush with the post? I’ve heard some people clip off the last coil of the spring, but...

    Boiling water through pump

This is 1/8”-thick wall, 1/2” ID white silicone rubber by Midwest Brewing, purchased on Amazon. Not sure how high-temp it’s rated, as I can’t find that info. I also don’t know what “braided” means. This is milky-white, semi-malleable tubing.

    Boiling water through pump

Thanks for this. It will be nearly-boiling, or post-boil. Probably not over 200 degrees or maybe even 190.

    Boiling water through pump

I just purchased a magnetic drive pump that says it’s rated up to 240 degrees. If I’m transferring boiling (or nearly boiling) water/wort through it, I’m still worried about subjecting the hoses to fluid that hot. The hose I bought is 1/2” high-temp silicone hose, made by Midwest Home Brewing...

    Appropriate Pump

Would this be a fairly good pump for recirculating with Mash and Boil, and also possibly recirculating during cool down?

Cooling wort and transferring from Mash and Boil

Thanks to everyone, this is great info. I will not worry so much about the valve, and spray it before attaching a pre-sanitized hose for transferring. I recirculate, and don’t use a pump. With regards to chilling, how long do I need to let it sit after stirring and before transferring, to make...

Cooling wort and transferring from Mash and Boil

Thanks for the advice on sanitizing the valve. I suppose maybe I’m being paranoid, but sanitizing beforehand... what if I’m recirculating using the valve during mash? Doesn’t that negate the prior sanitization? Also no, I did not stir during the cool-down. I’ll try that but will have to stir...

Cooling wort and transferring from Mash and Boil

Thanks for the advice. Yeah, a little worried about lifting a kettle with 5 gals of hot brew!

Cooling wort and transferring from Mash and Boil

Greetings! I recently got a Mash and Boil, and I love the brew day, how everything runs smoothly. There are a few things I wonder about, at the end of my boil. I used my immersion cooler in the M&B, took a very very long time to cool to 75 or so degrees. Seems hardly possible to cool quickly...

    Correct keg coupler

Thanks! I realized the ignorance of my question about five minutes later. Then I realized I already have a pair (in/out) of quick disconnects that I can use for one keg. Now I’ll just get another pair for the other keg. Thanks for the detailed pics and info.

    No “visible” fermenter activity

Thanks! Yeah, I’m not sure how I ended up with so much less volume. Followed the calculations given to me by the Mash and Boil manual, and I’ve heard they’re fairly accurate. I will be looking for potentially better mash/sparge water calculations for my next brew. However, I’m just going to...

    Correct keg coupler

I’m getting an EdgeStar KC3000TWIN this week, and have looked at the manual online. I’ve never legged before, but I’m reading and watching a lot of videos and feeling more and more comfortable. However, the manual says this unit comes with “American Sankey couplers.” I don’t know if they’re...

    No “visible” fermenter activity

Actually the recipe was for 5 gallons at 1.052 OG. I ended up with 4 gallons at 1.065 OG. Thanks for the advice, I will take a peek through the airlock hole for krausen

    No “visible” fermenter activity

My brew, a pale ale, came out at 1.065 og, .01 higher than the target. After boiling I had 4 gallons of beer, racked into my fermenter. Pitched 05 yeast, and placed blowoff tube with starsan in a pitcher. 65 hours in the fermenter and I see no visible activity yet. It’s a bucket, and I know that...

    Original Gravity too high

Before I begin I should say, this beer has already been in fermenting bucket for 12 hours. Last night I did my first all-grain brew. Following the Mash and Boil instructions and calculations, my sparge only took volume up to 3.5-4 gallons. Very low, so I added another 1.5 gallon of sparge...

Questions about all-grain using Mash and Boil

It seemed to drain pretty slowly. When they added sparge water it also took quite awhile for the water to work its way through. I don’t remember the poundage of grains, but it was close to the max that the system would take. About 15 or 16 pounds I think.
