    1-Gallon Brewers UNITE!

I'm usually a 3-gallon small batch brewer but since I had some extra space and I seemed to have plenty of yeast from my first attempt at yeast watching, I decided to test out a 1-gallon recipe. I was amazed at how fast the wort cooled. It actually threw my routine off, I had to let the cooled...

This might be a strange question...

Just to provide a quick update: Lately I've been making less-hoppy beers but the other day I opened the last bottle of an American Pale Ale I made a while ago. After finishing it, he was struggling to stay awake. It looks like he's susceptible to he hops' sedatives. Thanks for the answers...

    1-Gallon Brewers UNITE!

I just wanted to comment on this and say I don't drink a lot of alcohol either but I really enjoy the taste of beer, so smaller batches works really well for me for those reasons, too.

    1-Gallon Brewers UNITE!

When I was brewing small batches, I was basically weighing what I poured out. In the end, the storage was the inconvenient part. That's why I made the transition to all-grain pretty quickly. If I want to make recipes out of Brewing Basic Styles with extract, I'd end up with all kinds of...

This might be a strange question...

I'm new to homebrewing and my partner mostly enjoys the beer I've made but he says drinking my homebrew makes him sleepy in a way other alcoholic drinks don't, including commercial beers. Has anyone heard of anything like this? Is there something I can do so that he doesn't feel the need to...

    Brewing 1 Gallon Batches

I've been brewing small-ish 3-gallon batches but I've picked up 1-gallon jugs and airlocks so that I can test different ideas for fruit beers -- flavoring them with three quantities of fruit so I can see which one works best for future recipes. The small batches work for me since I don't have...

    Vanilla taste in my lager

I'm curious about what yeast you used, too. I think Blue Moon has a vanilla aftertaste that I like, when I asked my LHBS where that came, he suggested it was the yeast but didn't know which yeast would create that flavor.

Brooklyn Brew Shop Everyday IPA Kit Tips

I haven't heard of Brooklyn Brew Shop before but I'm intrigued by the idea of 1-gallon kits. Are the jugs just a regular 1-galon jug? It sounds like they can hold a little more than a gallon of liquid (I think I saw instructions saying you'll end up with 5 quarts). Could I make one with a...

    Aromatic hops and freshness

I'm still new to homebrewing but I've come to learn that one element I really enjoy in a beer is the aromatic hops, especially something that adds a bit of tropical fruit flavor to a beer. A couple months ago, in anticipation of spring, I picked up a Witbeer kit. I think I opened it sooner...

    Brewer's Best beer ingredient kit

My LHBS mostly carries Brewer's Best kits, so that's all I've used so far. My first two batches (I'm making 2.5 gallon batches) were the milk stout, then I made two matches of witbeer. I've got the American amber carbing right now. They've all been great beers. The kits were easy enough not...

Mr Beer - Read all about it and ask questions

IIRC, the Mr. Beer Witty Monk Witbeer kit is a Blue Moon clone, so that's the easiest answer. I'm pretty new to homebrewing, myself. I grabbed a Mr. Beer to introduce myself to homebrewing and decided to jump into making half-batches of 5-gallon kits after reading this thread. It just seemed...

    Cherry beer recommendations?

I'm a newbie who has made about four batches of beer and, with my cherry tree blossoming, I'm tempted to expand to attempting a secondary fermentation and to make something using some of my harvest of tart cherries. Does anyone have recommendations on what kind of beer I should flavor with my...
