    Insanely fast Nottingham fermentation?

On Sunday, I decided to brew a pretty simple small batch BIAB AG pale ale, because as we all know a full carboy is a happy carboy. Everything went very well with my brewday, according to Beersmith I hit 77.5% efficiency, I ended up with about 2.75 gallons of wort in the carboy, and I came in at...

What I did for beer today

Found out that there's a LHBS about a mile from my office. Stopped in at lunch to pick up some gaskets for my fliptop bottles and a couple of carboy bungs. Nice shop, but they're a little higher than NB on most things I checked. Still...when I just need something minor it's more convenient to...

What I did for beer today

Checked on the 2.5gal BIAB batch I did as my first AG experiment (Centennial Blonde). I brewed it 8 days ago, grav is at 1.008, and it already tastes great. Gonna leave it alone a few days, and if it's stable bottle on Sunday. And...not beer, but I checked on the apfelwein I put in the...

    Man, I love Apfelwein

My first batch hit 3 weeks today, and is starting to clear nicely. I took a gravity reading, and it's at 1.002. It's also got some carbonation to it - after I took the reading my hydrometer started floating up with the bubbles that were coming up on it. Sample tasted great and now I kinda...

Got a Beer Brewing date (!), need a belgian recipe!

Maybe get her to sign a pre-brew agreement granting you full discretion of custody arrangements for the fermenter in the event of a decision on either party's part not to pursue a second date? "I really can't wait to brew with you, but I'm gonna have to ask you to sign this first. Just a...

Should I feel guilty buying online and not local?

I guess I should consider myself lucky - my closest LHBS is Northern Brewer. They've been nothing but friendly and helpful every time I've been in, and considering how new I am to this hobby I've had my share of questions. I know there are a couple of other shops in the area, but I just...

What I did for beer today

Soaked/cleaned two cases of empties last night and left them to dry overnight. Put them back in heavy cardboard Point cases this morning to store them, after causing a complete domino pile of bottles on me kitchen counter. That'll wake you up better than a cup of coffee. One more case to...

Relaxing, and having my own FIRST homebrew

It was NB's Bavarian Hefeweizen extract kit. The most nerve-wracking part was holding the bottle opener there, worried that I wouldn't get the telltale hiss of CO2 escaping when I opened it. All went well though, and in another week or two I'll be chilling a few more. I'll definitely set a...

    Store brand beer

Seems to be quite the trend I guess. Sendik's, which is a grocery chain that as far as I know is limited to SE Wisconsin, has their own branded beer now. Noticed it the other day when I was "walking past" the beer aisle, but didn't think to look closely. I'll check the next time I'm there to...

What I did for beer today

Brewed the aforementioned 2.5gal BIAB batch. Cleaned a dozen 22oz bomber bottles that I picked up yesterday, and 14 Grolsch fliptops that I got. Cleaning another couple of cases of empties now before I store them.

Relaxing, and having my own FIRST homebrew

Well, the way I KNOW I won't be tempted to try more than one before they're ready is my beer shelf in the basement fridge - Lakefront Wisconsinite, Lagunitas Censored, and a couple of Bell's Pale Ales all waiting to be consumed. That'll get me through the workweek.

Relaxing, and having my own FIRST homebrew

I have an NB Shining Star Pale Ale in my 6gal BB that was brewed the day after I bottled this batch (Bavarian Hefeweizen, btw), as well as 2 2.5gal batches of a couple of APA recipes I found for experimenting with BIAB. Oh, and a batch of EdWort's Apfelwein in my 5gal BB. You know what they...

How many gallons of Homebrew in 2012?

    +2.5 gal APA = 21,162

    What are you drinking now?

The first bottle of my first batch brewed - NB's Bavarian Hefeweizen. Already tasty, and will get better with age. When I finish that, I'll be cracking into a Lagunitas Uncensored.

    So who's brewing this weekend?

Just pitched the yeast on an APA.

    Hello From Wisconsin

^^This :) I haven't been doing this for long, but I can say that the staff at NB have all been very helpful on the occasions that I've been there. The day that I "took the plunge" and decided I wanted to start brewing, one of them spent close to an hour going through everything. Do some...

Relaxing, and having my own FIRST homebrew

I'm sure many of you can relate to difficulty of waiting until your very first beer is completely conditioned and carbed and really ready to drink. I bottled my first batch on Monday, and it has been taunting me since. So when I went downstairs this morning to check the temps on the stuff I...

What I did for beer today

Picked up a Phat Tyre kit to brew next week when I bottle the pale ale that's in primary now. Got the grain and hops to do another 2.5gal BIAB experiment. Cleaned and delabeled one of the 4 cases of bottles I picked up today.
