    Killed My First keg

You said it yourself. GET MORE KEGS! I don't know what I'd do if I were limited to one or two kegs on tap at a time and extras in reserve. We do seem to keep them in a good rotation, but it is definitely a sad day when one is killed - even sadder when you have a party and the best cream ale...

    Today's Brewday!

I was literally just typing up a similar message! Brewed a 10 gallon batch of Deception Cream Stout, and things just seemed to go smoothly. Must be some alignment in the planets, because I to almost always have something go wrong - or at the very least I'm rushing around like a maniac...

Corny Kegs. The only option for larger quantities?

As others have mentioned, if you have any thoughts of kegging in the future, 6 kegs isn't all that many. I have 9 now, and its my goal to get and keep most of them full as much as possible.

new to kegging - didn't connect serving line till now D'OH

Hmm. I've regularly connected and disconnected serving lines juggling kegs around in my fridge, and I've never had any beer spray at me. I have ball lock kegs, so maybe that's part of it, but I'd imagine if you make the connection in one quick motion you shouldn't have too much beer spraying...

    Pawn Shops

There's only one pawn shop I frequent, and the closest I've come to seeing brewing stuff is a kegerator. I did also once see a bar setup sort of thing (that if I knew then what I know now I'd have snatched up in a heart beat). It was 3/4 of a wooden barrel, with space for a full keg plus...

Taxes in MI? How about in TX?

I live in Michigan, and for the most part its not too shabby. City taxes are 1% if you live in the city, and .05% if you work in the city but live elsewhere. I personally think its crap, but that's me. I think you're right on the State taxes for MI, but I filed those a bit ago, and haven't...

Silly BIAB with Turkey Pot Question

Exactly what others have said - if my pot came with one I'd use it if for no reason other than trying to get all of the drippings back into the pot with a 20+lb grain bill is a pain (doesn't fit well in my strainer, and even if it did I'd be working to keep the bag from spilling over the sides)...

    Chilling wort

You actually can, but if you're doing full volume boils, adding ice to the wort will give you more volume than you wanted. For me, I chill the wort fast so I can wrap up my brew day, or start on the second batch quickly after the first finishes (or the third, if we're feeling productive).

simple random sample (ATM deposit preference)

I've never had a problem putting cash or checks in an ATM. I've also never seen a two-slot ATM. What's the benefit in having (other than redundancy, but if the whole ATM is down* then its really inconsequential). I only go to the teller when we're visiting my girlfriend's family, because her...

When did turn signals become optional?

You haven't heard, they're optional on most cars. Very expensive option if you ask me, and I'd rather have the polished wheels instead of turn signal if you ask me.

    Yeast storage containers

Right now I'm using pint mason jars, but I just ordered 30 soda bottle preforms (the same/similar thing to what white labs yeast comes in) to store yeast because the mason jars are encroaching on valuable beer space in my kegerator/fridge-thing. My plan is to use the mason jars to settle the...

Cream Ale Cream of Three Crops (Cream Ale)

I'm not BM, nor am I an expert in identifying flavors, but I'm currently on my second keg from a 10-gallon batch fermented with pacman, and I like it. The first one I ever did was with US-05, and it too was good. I'm not great at picking out subtle differences, and I can't attribute the flavor...

    MORE Stupid Newbie Kegging Questions

The reason the regulator read that pressure even after turning the dial down is that the pressure is residual in the keg and in the lines. To dial the pressure down, I have to turn the dial down and vent the keg (or use the little vent on the regulator). So, in essence, that is the correct way...

    The Poor College Brewer

Want to go all grain cheap? Brew in a Bag (BIAB). If you have a large pot already, all you need is a curtain and some sewing skills or one of the 5-gallon paint strainer bags I have heard you can get from home depot (or similar home improvement store) and a burner of sorts. When going to...

To Keg Or Go All Grain First?

I tried one BIAB all grain batch before I ordered my kegging stuff and hunted down a fridge on craigslist. Its not that I dislike bottling - I actually enjoy it, and the ability to give some bottles to friends and family*. BIAB was super simple to jump to, so I started brewing more frequently...

    Learning from mistakes...

My first brew, I was evidently delirious as to how effective topping off with cool water would be. It took overnight to get to pitching temps, and looking back, if my memory is functioning, I'd be willing to bet that I was still over 80 or 85 degrees. My second brew was in winter, so it worked...

My 2 cents or rant on DME starters.

Its also an experiment that would be made more fun by the fact that at the end, whether or not the hypothesis was supported, you have beer! :ban:

How often do you open your keezer / kegerator?

Mine gets opened daily, but that's because I use one of the drawers in it to store chopped up veggies for my iguana. I also use it for storing a small number of bottled beers, all of my hops, jars with yeast, etc. The freezer has all of our mugs/glasses too.

    Starsan vs. Thermometer Markings

I don't know how often this might happen, but I just went and grabbed my thermometer out of my bucket with a small amount of Starsan water in it (been sitting since last weekend when I brewed). I don't know why I didn't get everything out of it, but there it was. Pulled it out, and went to...

What are you spending your tax refund on?

I got more of a refund than I was anticipating, but that's due solely to how my company paid out bonuses last year. I don't expect that to happen this year seeing as... well... our bonuses were much smaller or non existent. For me, the money is going into two savings accounts - one for my...
