    Storing kits

hmmm. i personally have kept dry malt extract around for many months with no issue. would assume liquid extract has several months’ shelf life. i store dry yeast in the fridge for - you guessed it - many months with no issues. you’ll be fine!

    Storing kits

i’d refridge the yeast and freeze the hops. keep everything in the sealed bags. should be okay for a few months at least.

New Jersey NJ / Philly - Anyone want a SS Brewtech Unitank? 14g

Have an SSBrewtech unitank with just about every possible attachment. 14gal. However I downgraded to 5 gallon batches and no longer need this large of a fermenter. Has the FTSS temp control package - heat and cool, the CIP ball. Leg extensions. The only thing I’d suggest you replace is the...

    Hops ... does year matter?

IMO you stand a chance to get a 5-10% reduction in quality from 2018 hops. if that’s worth it to you spend the extra $ on later harvests. for me- i’d say buy the freshest hops you can for everything from whirlpool onward (dry hop). bittering, get the best deal you can and adjust recipe for the...

Crushed too fine and now this in boil....

You’ll be fine as long as you can get it cleaned up before serving.

Video consoles: What should I buy, I'm bored.

Hey Bruce, fortnite is free. So I would say that’s not a great deal. Just a hunch. Others will correct.

Voss Kveik yeast is a monster

I just did a pale ale @75 with it. Will post results in a week or so.

American Pale Ale Bee Cave Brewery Haus Pale Ale

Brewed this on Saturday and underpitched Voss (kveik) hoping to capitalize on the rumored orange flavors. The bitterness is understated, possibly due to using a hop spider for the first time. Need to search this thread for dry hopping ideas...

Pressure Transfer from keg to keg

Whatever length is practical given your physical needs. i use about 2.5’ which is a bit long for me. Could use 18” but i haven’t bothered to cut it down yet.

How much do I drink a day

There’s no way the human body can consume *that* much alcohol on a regular basis and not be affected unless you’re physically addicted. The people who mix all night could be alcoholics. The people who wobble after one beer are not.

    Oxygenation through carb stone

Thanks guys. After filling the uni there was enough static pressure to actually push wort through the stone into the gas line. Wonder if my O2 bottles are not pressurized high enough?? Next time i pull the stone i’ll do some testing.

    Oxygenation through carb stone

Thought to use my SSBrewtech’s unitank carb stone to oxygenate. When i attempted this using a red O2 bottle from Home Depot it didn’t have enough pressure to push through the stone. Fail. tried two different bottles. Anyone do this successfully?

    Yeast starter from recipe wort?

Thanks for the replies. Starter was spinning over night and came down to see the unitank @2psi. UGH. Vented a bunch of suspicious smelling gas. Gravity was still at OG level so hopefully not many sugars consumed. Pitched the starter a bit ahead of schedule but figured under pitching is better...

    Yeast starter from recipe wort?

Thanks guys, glad to hear this will work since I forged ahead today after the brew was done. Only issue is that I pulled 1.060 wort from the unitank after it chilled. And I assume the prevailing wisdom calls for making starters @ 1.040 for a reason. Hopefully it doesn't matter too much, it's...

    Yeast starter from recipe wort?

Waiting on DME to show up but it’s delayed. Anyone ever decant some cooled wort to make a starter with and then pitch back into the beer? 1.060 wort. I’m thinking it should work if i keep everything sanitary.

It’s been nice while it lasted...

Right on brother. Good people on this site/ in this thread. Beer and brewing is fun but should be abandoned in an instant without a second thought or a single regret when your family’s health is concerned. We all support you on that, even more than our general love of beer and brewing. Stick...

Yeast, yeast starters and stir plates for the newbie

Discovered that through my furious Googling. Sadly i just pitched my yeast (made from a boil-canned starter) 24 hrs ago. Down the drain it all goes.
