    Skipping traditional mashing?

If you like to start early why not fill the kettle the night before and plug it into a timer plug to start an hour or so before you want to mash in? That way you wake up, grab a coffee and dough in straight away.

Voss Kveik yeast is a monster

Sorry guys, but am I missing something here? Is there some catch/gotcha* I haven't seen? Or is this really some sort of miracle yeast??? *apart from trying to get my paws on it!

Help me take my BIAB system up to the next level

I wish they exported to Europe! I know though, for dudes like them and Wilser, exporting to the EU on a commercial scale would be such a pain in the hole as to render it pointless (not to mention expensive). My (overly complicated plan) is to set up a whirlpooling system and whirlpool around...

Get rid of rubber hose smell in fermenter

Bumpity bump bump Anyone ever get a rubber smell from their equipment? Suspected Cause: I use the hot water coming out of my immersion chiller to fill up my corny fementers and add a few table spoons of sodium percarbonate. To this I throw in everything that needs a good soak. I also added...

    Insulation vs. Low Heat?

Just beware that smaller volumes will lose temp quicker but like others said, in BIAB maintaining mash temp for so long isn't an issue. Might be an issue for 1G batches though...

    Ss Brewtek....

This is it. Essentially, OP is salty because customer service didn't fawn all over him. If OP was female she'd most likely be called Karen and would demand to speak to a manager. Don't be like OP.

    Oatmeal Stout Yooper's Oatmeal Stout

how was it with the cascade? Thanks Yooper but I'm afraid I can't get either. I'll just use 100g of roasted barley (1300 EBC) instead of 230g and hope for the best! Also will be using either Notty or some US-5 slurry

    Oatmeal Stout Yooper's Oatmeal Stout

This looks great, must give it a go. Any time i use roasted barley (stout and irish red) though I always get an anise flavour that I never get with my other beers. Am I meant to use the roasted barley different to the other grains?

    Speeding up BIAB brew days

Yup, quick chill to ~70°C takes about 5-10 mins and provides me with hot water for cleaning too so no waste there. Just a quick add on to this - I tried doing this in my fermenting buckets which have spigots. The spigot seal did not hold so if you want to no chill chose the vessel carefully...

The dreaded medicinal flavor... que quest goes on & on

    Show your BIAB Stand/Set up

How did that hold up over time? I'm brewing in the kitchen on an induction plate on the kitchen table. I'm in a rental so that's a no on the eye hooks, so looking for a similar solution just to hoist the bag. I have the 15G SS Brewtech kettle and am wondering if the uprights that you have would...

The dreaded medicinal flavor... que quest goes on & on

That could be it. I've just been separating my trub from my wort (usually about 1.050-1.060) and using that as a vitality starter. So this time I watered it down to get to 1.040 and the starter looked and smelled much better! But then I went ahead and pitched it into cold wort and forgot to...

The dreaded medicinal flavor... que quest goes on & on

Hope it's ok to jump in on this with a question of my own... I brewed the (m)Oktoberfest with a harvested kölsch slurry from a quality tasting beer. Now, my (m)Otoberfest is exhibiting a bit of an off taste like medicinal but is fading over time in the bottle. The last bottle is was very much...

American Pale Ale Cascades / Orange Pale Ale

Another way is to put it in a zip lock bag and bate the ***** out of it ;-)

Thinking about going BIAB. Anyone one with regrets? Tips?

Just to come back on the whole kettle into fermenter thing... My immersion chiller is meh but gets me to circa 30°C quickly enough so I pour the wort into the fermenter and leave to cool to pitching temps. Then I pour the dregs into a jug and let sit on the freezing balcony (wohoo winter!)...
