    Belgian Inspired Ales

We have a great brewery locally called Taxman Brewery that does a unique spin on their brews. They are all made with Belgian yeast. And some of their beers are downright awesome. https://www.taxmanbrewing.com/ Right now I am enjoying their Belgian Blonde Ale. It's freaky good. I would love...

Airlock has stopped bubbling sooner than expected

Hello new brewer. The #1 advise to any new brewer.... RELAX. Like all of us one were, new brewers tend to worry way-way too much. Beer making is more resilient than you think. Mistakes can happen and the beer still comes out great. As long as you follow basic procedures, clean stuff well...

    So who's brewing this weekend?

Brewing sort of a free beer this weekend. After much coaxing, I am brewing a beer for someone else. He bought the grains/etc. I do all the work and keep half the beer. It is a Caribous Slobber clone.

Right now it is a GBoom Bluetooth speaker... pretty decent speaker, but not exactly a sound system

The homebrew house of my dreams... is 30 days away!!

Other side with table.... and the fridge using as fermentation chamber. The walls/floor are done. Now comes fun part of dressing up... still want to put up either corrugated metal or floor paneling halfway up the wall. Get some cool light fixtures etc.

The homebrew house of my dreams... is 30 days away!!

Uh... perhaps you don't see the giant silver hood vent?? That thing vents extremely well. Also have 2 window AC's running during brew time. One doesn't keep up with the heat. During the cooler months I open a window. The negative pressure created by the hood vent more than pulls enough outside...

The homebrew house of my dreams... is 30 days away!!

It's fine... I guess I don't understand. You can put your hand under it when lit... it is not that hot under the burner

The homebrew house of my dreams... is 30 days away!!

I have a table and chairs now, also a fridge. We have put some stuff on the walls, going to build some shelves... and yes add a TV and couch. I have a chest freezer ready to go, I have not yet done the conversion for taps.

Strange white stuff from drinking water hose / RV hose

Yep... I buy two 25' sections cause it is cheaper than buying a 50' hose. Somehow that makes sense to them apparently.

The homebrew house of my dreams... is 30 days away!!

Just now beginning the "dress up" fun stage... I wanted to post up how I am venting. Getting the idea from a fellow member here of using a large commercial mixing bowl as a hood vent... this is how I am venting. Works great! This is the outside vent, It has petscreen on the inside to keep...

Strange white stuff from drinking water hose / RV hose

I also use drinking water hose, have for awhile. I buy new hose every year for this reason. I wasn't getting the same large white stuff you get, but the water is clearly cloudy once the hose gets more than a year old.

If you could do it all over again...

I guess what I would have done differently would be to have skipped the expense and time wasted on AG and go straight to BIAB. That or bought a grainfather, but then it didn't really exist then....and BIAB was around but few did it.

If you could do it all over again...

Yes I would do it again. I fell off the horse for well over a year when I went through a divorce, my father died... moving. I definitely missed it. I think it satisfies my creative side, the need to make something which is why I like to cook as well. I enjoy taking the raw materials and...

If I didn't know better, I would swear this was lager yeast.

Okay so tasting the first glass...and it indeed has a hint of the banana esters from S 04. A very slight sour note that you sometimes get from this yeast... hoping that drops out.

On this memorial day, I lament...

We live next to a park that was dedicated in 1922 with a large WW1 memorial, years later they also erected a large WW II memorial. Complete with life-size soldier statue, beautifully carved eagles etc. The WW1 memorial was finished in 1928. The soldier statue stood, untouched for 60 years. In...

    Worst Craft Beer Of ALL-TIME!

I wouldn't say it is the worts craft beer by any means, but Lagunitas Daytime IPA. I honestly don't see how this gets such high ratings. It is way out of balance, you might as well just make "hop water". Founders All Day is multiples better than this in my opinion. I don't believe making a light...

Couple die after drinking homemade beer in South Africa

And someone also died from drinking fish cleaner. There are no toxic ingredients in making beer. There are no combinations of those ingredients that can create such a lethal toxin that kills you after one drink. Most poisons can't do that unless you ingest copious amounts of it. It is a...

    Northern Brewer

Shipping has went up a LOT in the past 6 months, before the virus. The heavier it is, the more it has gone up. I believe it has to do with super shippers like Amazon etc. They have contracts with shippers down to extremely thin margins. So UPS and FedEx raises the cost for everyone else to...
