    57% Efficiency, AGAIN!

I typically use 2 thermometers. 1 floating and 1 beverage. I use them fairly interchangeably but they seem fairly consistent with either other. I have checked my gravity readings but only with water, haven't tested it sugar'd water yet. I do the iodine test and so far so good. I am...

    57% Efficiency, AGAIN!

That is what I did last weekend.. Single sparge with 4 gallons of water. Thats why I tried the double sparge to see if it made a difference. I have only been measuring gravity at pitch. I just use straight Seattle tap water which I have heard is really good as is.

    57% Efficiency, AGAIN!

So for the 3rd AG session in a row (and in total) I have been getting about 57% efficiency. I would really like to improve this. Here is my process.. I get my grains from the brew store and crush twice. 1st crush I do at their recommended setting and then I do a 2nd crush a bit finer. This...

    How's my pale look?

well I've only done one PM and one AG.. the PM I got about 40% but that's mostly due to too much water and not enough time to boil off. the AG I got about 57%. I use a 10gallon rubbermaid with a steel mesh hose. Still dialing in my process. I grind my grains twice at the LHB store so guessing my...

    Great HOP pricing going on!

I bought 8lbs of hops from them about a week or 2 before the sale, wrote them an email asking if they do any sort of price adjustments. Not really expecting anything but figured would hurt to try. Fast forward a couple of week and what do I find? 5lbs of free hops at my doorstep! I will...

    Great HOP pricing going on!

I just took delivery of that from buy.com on thursday. I'll probably be using it later today along with the mason jar attachment. My plan is to put 1/2lb in a mason jar that I can get in an out of easily and reseal the rest in the original bag for longer term storage.

Checked my floating therm after a few minutes and was at 153 (about what I was looking for). After about 45 minutes did an iodine test and...

    How much fresh ginger?

Did you let them pass into the fermenter or did you strain them out of the wort?

    Yeast Starter with Corn Sugar?

Did a quick search but didn't find much on this topic. I was wondering if it's ok to make a yeast starter using corn sugar instead of DME? Are there any advantages or disadvantages to this?
