    APAs and IPAs aroma disappearance

I have a friend who has a craft brewery. We were talking about capturing Co2 off his fermenters, and he is looking into the equipment necessary to do just that. Once he gets it up and running, I'll get some pictures and post a report on here.

    APAs and IPAs aroma disappearance

I forgot to mention, I always wait until day 2 of fermentation to purge off of it. This perticular batch was a pale ale with a OG of 1.050 that finished at 1.010.

    APAs and IPAs aroma disappearance

@doug293cz and now I'm very concerned about my last two brews. I'm not too concerned about a slight amount of o2 being in with the Co2 in the purged keg as while filling the kegs with beer it also pushes out o2. From my understanding Co2 is considerably heavier than o2. Therefore any remaining...

    APAs and IPAs aroma disappearance

@mac_1103 that was only this last brew that I attempted to capture the excess into a bottle. I won't be trying that again. And they most likely went much longer than an hour as I hook lines up and get on to other task. But I am now concerned as I used that Co2/o2 to carbonate two fresh kegs of...

    APAs and IPAs aroma disappearance

@doug293cz I'll try to answer your question here. It was a 5 gallon batch used to purge the kegs. I never purge more than two kegs at a time. I hook the lines up during active fermentation and walk away for hours, sometimes I let it go over night. When additional empty kegs are cleaned and...

    APAs and IPAs aroma disappearance

@mac_1103 the two sixtels had been purged for about an hour before the blow off line were connected to the 5lb Co2 bottle. My practice may not meet scientific data but it works. I haven't suffered an issue purging kegs and I've been doing it this way for four years now.

    APAs and IPAs aroma disappearance

I've read about several ways to purge kegs with Co2 from fermentation. A few have suggested that at max you could only purge 2 kegs. I am confused by such post especially the ones that provide charts with numbers reflecting pressures and volumns etc. I have been using the Co2 from the fermenter...

What I did for beer today

I transferred an APA, that I call Coach Haus Pale Ale, to a sixtel and put it in the kegerator. I then made up a BLC solution in a 1.6 gal Torpedo keg and flushed and cleaned two vacant taps and lines. After getting everything rearranged in the kegerator and the new brews hooked up, (my Julio...

How about a clamp-on stainless steel blow off bucket for conicals?

That's cool and all but I like using a Goat Island Growler placed on the bottom shelf of my fermenter. I think it looks cool and you can see the bubbles. Brewery guest get a kick out of seeing the Co2 bubbling away.

What I did for beer today

I transferred my Julio Uno Lago and collected the trub. It's my first time collecting SafLager 34/70 off of a brew. We'll see after it has had a week to settle out to determine which of the 4 jars will actually get used to brew a batch. Next I transferred a pale ale that I call Coach Haus Pale...

    Getting old sucks

It's interesting reading the different options our fellow homebrewers employ to enjoy this hobby. I see a few here are old like myself. We, older brewers, started out long before the availability of SS conicals and the many plastic options. I used 5 gal buckets, glass carboys, kegmenters for the...

What I did for beer today

Last week I recieved my 6 regulator board and all the hardware. Today I finally got it installed and everything hooked up. Time will tell how well it works. But it has to be better than switching a single Co2 line from keg to keg.

@Willy have you tried using Saaz and Hallertau together in lagers or pilsners. I have and now I mix the two often, especially in my go to lager. If you haven't given it a try. Hopefully you will like it as much as I do.
