    Loral Hops (HBC 291)

Hi H-Sauce, I’ve yet to use WY3726 but it’s on the list. This version with Wlp568 keeps changing and now for the better. Phenols/clove are still present but the citrus/lemon/floral has all finally melded together. Definitely refreshing and pleasant... so much so that I did a repeat batch with...

    Loral Hops (HBC 291)

Got some! It’s nice. A bit more citrus than I expected. While warming some of the floral notes come out. With this example I agree with the description on the YVH website. Thanks again for the tip.

    Mosaic with WLP530

Bummer! I’ll put my money on the combination of bagged hops (decreased surface area/flow/exposure), warmer fermentation temp (drive off volitiles more vigorously?) and the cold crash (O2 exposure). Do you have any air suck-back mitigation? I’ve been “soft crashing”, which is a 2 day temp ramp...

    Loral Hops (HBC 291)

Hi H-sauce, FYI - I sampled this saison again recently and it has completely changed. The lemon is still there but has taken a back seat to some very strong clove and phenol notes. Actually, some floral aroma and flavor is now detectable. Due to the substantial changes during bottle...

    Hop to compliment El Dorado

Alright Morrey, here you go! Aroma: getting primarily fruit/candied fruit on the nose - mainly passion fruit, peach, melon (like a combo with honeydew and watermelon). Taste: tropical fruit breakfast. Not a hint of resin/dank in this one. Very easy drinking. Going forward, I’ll try...

Thanks for the tip! I’ll definitely go hunting ;)

    Hop to compliment El Dorado

Please let us know how that goes. I just kegged a dNE-IPA today that was el dorado (6oz) on the hot-side and galaxy 2x4oz dry hop on days 3 and 4 of fermentation (wy-1318 yeast cake from a previous batch). Burst carbonating now and will report back circa Thursday ;)

    Loral Hops (HBC 291)

Here is a saison rendition: This was bottled 2wks ago and spent 12 hours in the fridge. Hot-side Loral-hopped wlp568 saison: Aroma: Belgian yeast. Touch of clove/phenol/spice. As the beer warms I’m getting more herbal/grassy/hay notes and underlying it all is pleasant lemon/pithy citrus peel...

    Mosaic with WLP530

Ok. See attached photos for recipe and visuals. This was bottled 2wks ago and spent 12 hours in the fridge. Hot-side Loral-hopped wlp568 saison: Aroma: Belgian yeast. Touch of clove/phenol/spice. As the beer warms I’m getting more herbal/grassy/hay notes and underlying it all is pleasant...

IPA with Chinook and El Dorado?

I vote GO! Might want to consider your ratio and what you want in the product - I’ve had issues with too much Chinook in IPAs (6-8oz in 5 gal) and I ended up with grapefruit-laced pine sol... 4oz Chinook, then hit it hard with el dorado could be money.

    Hop to compliment El Dorado

I’m a fan of blending (1:1 ratio) El Dorado and Mosaic. I call it El-Mo ;) It dials up the fruitiness for me but adds a layer of dank that I think cuts through the sweetness that one could perceive (I have also) in a straight El Dorado brew that doesn’t have quite enough bitterness. Apollo...

    Lemonaughty hops?

Post resurrection: did anyone in this post use these? I was pleased that the hop descriptors were posted here as they have vanished from the yvh website... I picked up a 1/2lb of the 2017 crop and will do a NEIPA w/1318, targeting a 6/2/2018 pour date...

    Mosaic with WLP530

Interesting. I’ll keep you posted as I’m 1 week from cracking into the wlp568 saison. What yeast did you go with and how much in the dry hop? Based on some other forum feedback I’ve found, it sounds like a heavy hand is not recommended with Loral and it would be good blended/accent role...

    Mosaic with WLP530

Thanks for the response! I’m digging into Loral hops at the moment: 1) saison w/wlp568 and 4oz Loral in the whirlpool, which is carbing up; 2) planning a golden strong/triple with Loral (probably just whirlpool additions). I’ll report back.

    Mosaic with WLP530

Nice work. I have yet to add too much mosaic to a batch of homebrew. Went up to 1lb in 5gal and it was superb. I have noticed that Belgian yeasts do some weird stuff (biotransformation?) to hop flavors. For example, wlp550 converts Vic’s secret into a melon bomb whereas 1318 provides a more...

    Yeast Substitution WLP090

I’ll second this. I work with wlp90 for most of the beers I brew and have taken an old pack (ca. 30B cells remaining) and pitched into a 1.030 1.7L starter. I let it stir for 24 hours (visible increase in cell density was observed), split into two 1- quart ball jars, cold crashed both. On brew...

    Unboxing the Penguin Chiller

Many thanks for the info sir! Great tip for the valved disconnects - I’ll definitely keep this in mind for when I pull the trigger ;)

    Unboxing the Penguin Chiller

Hello Dockside, Now that you have been operating your chiller for a couple of months, would you have an update for us on pros/cons, performance and coupling to SS brewtech (presumably) fermentation gear? Thanks, Chris
