    Stout 12.5 vs 14.5 conical

I did, I went with the 14.5 with the 3" tri-clamp port in the lid. Should ship in June can't wait. I'll throw up a detailed review when it comes in.

    Brew water stainless steel smell

A clean SS kettle shouldn't really have a smell. If your water is picking up a metallic aroma from your kettle, its probably from residue from the manufacturing process. I wouldn't really worry about it all that much, I doubt it will make it to the final product, but I'd give your kettle a good...

    Quick disconnect ideas?

I'm a cam lock user as well, I found them to be the best computerize between price and ease of use. SS QD's would be great but it would have been too expensive to do my entire brewery. I also like the fact that you can get one piece female/barb with cam locks so you dont have to take them apart...

off flavor from blichmann beer gun?

I've been using a beer gun since the thing came out, however many years ago that was, and have never had an issue with it. Ideas, this is just brain storming so forgive me is any of this sounds patronizing. -Cleaned the whole gun when you first got it with a SS safe (Non Bleach based) cleaner...

    Have I killed my yeast?

I'll back up what everyone above said, though if I where in your spot I'd probably pitch some fresh yeast as well.

    Grain Mills - Your opinion?

I grabbed a cheap low speed 1/2" drill from harbor freight.

    Grain Mills - Your opinion?

I want to second the notion that adjustability is over rated. My Monster Mill (which I love) came factory set at the same gap as the JSP fixed roller mill, and the first thing I did when I got it was tighten down the adjustment lock bolts to keep the factory setting. JSP fixed roller is a great...

    Override thermostat temperature probe placement?

Good Day, Just built a new kreezer, much bigger then my old one, and started thinking about probe placement for the first time. I decided to stick the probe in a homemade thremowell placed in a beer bottle full of water at the bottom of my kreezer hoping to better control liquid temperature...

    Risk of Oxidizing

You don't want to rack until the fermentation is done, i.e. has reached terminal gravity. Your beer will still give some co2, but if you rack early your attenuation is going to be off which will be much more noticeable then slight oxidation. You can mitigate oxidation by racking carefully to the...

    Grain Mills - Your opinion?

I've used 3 mill since I stated brewing: JSP Maltmill model P - My first mill 10 years ago. Fixed 11" inch rollers, milled grain nicely but has a small cheaply designed hopper. I used it for almost a decade, rollers and drive shaft developed some rust. All and all it was a great mill for a...

    Rusty Rollers

Need some advice, I picked up a use JSP Malt Mill, cheap, no hopper, the head to bolt that secures the handle broke off so the handle is stuck on and the rollers were quite rusty. I clean the the rollers the best I could with a wire brush and a wire bush head on my drill, but I can't seem to...

    experimenting

Non-twist off's are always a safer bet, with very few exceptions. If you experimenting with trying beer, experiment with making it. Look at a few Belgian White recipes to get a feel for them and throw something together. Wheat + Spices + Belgain'y Yeast = A Great Start. Good luck, keep brewing.

    Moving on up!

Yes, you dont have to worry about filling the keg, you just have to make sure you fill the head space with CO2. There's a few ways to do this, pin locks normally dont have manual pressure relief valves on the lids so you have to use a spare disconnect, or anything that lets you push down the...

Used Screw-Cap Growlers --- OK To Bottle In?

If your bottle carbonating you don't want to use growlers, at least not standard screw top growlers. Beyond that its all a matter of shelf life, the poly-foam can harbor some bacteria, and standard screw top growlers wont hold carbonation very well. I only use growlers when I know the beer is...

    All Grain Kettle/Pot Quality Criteria

Budget and priorities are the two huge factors here. As earlier posters have said you can make the same beer in a Boiler Maker as you can in an aluminum pot from Walmart. I personally started with a cheap aluminum pot and I now own a Boiler Maker. So point by point: 1- I choose to go all...
