    Cold crash, air lock sucking

Has anyone tried cold crashing in a keg and putting co2 at a very low pressure like 2 psi into the gas in? Thinking about a mini co2 regulator with a 16 gram co2 cartridge.

    What have I made?

Looks like an amber ale to me. Roasted barley is probably around 300l. At 8%, that's a lot of color. Might even be a brown. I make a pale ale with about 5% crystal malt at 75l. And my ibus on that beer is about 25%..Don't worry about style too much. Just worry about what you like and dislike in...

    WLP800 starter

Yeah. This one didn't look like it had much activity. Stepped it up. Was going to make the call whether to get more yeast later in day before lhbs closed. By late afternoon saw lots of bubbles, but not kraussen on top. Then I stepped it up again. Biggest starter I've ever made, but by pitching...

    I bought a keg setup

When you upgrade your taps, don't buy the cheapos. Get stainless steel forward sealing taps.

    What are you drinking now?

    WLP800 starter

Made a starter last night, and was hoping to see significant activity this morning when I woke up. Was planning to add more wort to the starter this am. First time using this yeast. My plan now is to stop by lhbs this morning and pick up more yeast. Just looking for confirmation that picking up...

    Ssbrewtech conical fermenters

I think I'm remembering the amount wrong. Sorry. Was thinking it was $300, but in reality it was in the 300s at $395. Again, my apologies. I bought it from Morebeer.com.

    Denver Breweries

In Denver you can't throw a rock without hitting a brewery of some sort. There are also some cideries popping up. Where in Denver are you staying?

    Ssbrewtech conical fermenters

I should have added that I don't regret buying standard version. On a side note, Ss Brewtech has awesome customer service!! I had an issue with the leg extensions. They got back to me right away.

    Ssbrewtech conical fermenters

I bought the standard fermenter. $295. Has the domed lid. Can be pressurized. Haven't done that though, yet. The drawbacks are that it takes a bit longer to clean. I typically have at least 3 weeks between brew days. Plenty of time for me to clean up. It has 2 valves, so you use the bottom one...

First attempt at all-grain. Gravity issues and fermentation question

+1 I also vote for warming it up. Furthermore, it's not unusual when completely changing process to be way off first time. IMHO, keep good notes, enter your numbers into brewing software and before you know it, you'll be nailing your numbers. I'll bet you made a completely different beer than...

First brew and ferm chamber build

Man, you got temp control in a nice chamber like that before you even brewed?! You are an inspiration, and you are going to be a great brewer!

    Leave it or transfer?

    Yup. Leave it.

SS Chronical leg extensions for standard 7 gallon chronical not that secure

I ordered the legs and the shelf for a 7 gal fermenter. No casters. I have the rubber sleeves on, but the legs just slide right off. No hardware included for the shelf either. Pretty disappointed right now. Seems like I'll have to put some shims in the legs to make them work, and then off to...

Too much trub when I collected yeast?

My first time with a conical fermenter. Decided to capture the yeast to re pitch. This is a 7 gallon conical. I opened the valve and ran in a pitcher about a pint and a half of trub, to be thrown out. I then collected in a mason jar the rest of what still looked like trub to me then beer. I was...

    Tap caps or plugs?

I use both. I think they're equally good. I think the caps are easier, and I go to those more. But the brush ones are nice to. I think I got a little more worried about keeping the brushes clean. But, recently I used one to scrub the inside of a small opening. Can't remember what it was, but I...

    Northern Brewer Replacement

I'm casting my vote for Williams Brewing. They're fast, and reliable. I have a lhbs, but for the unusual, harder to get stuff, I look here first. I also use Morebeer, but in the past it's been frustrating to wait a few days before you see it shipped. If I use them, I factor that in.

    Pitch or Not?!?!

If in doubt, make a starter. 1.083 is pretty big. You want healthy yeast for that. If it was me and the wort was in a lower range like 1.055-1.065 on a 1 gallon batch, I'd just go for it and pitch. But in this case, I would make a starter.

Can I save a low OG brew?

Your yeast will be good. Your idea of mixing the beers is a good idea. Having said that, the first batch may be good on its own. Sometimes it's good to have a lower abv beer. It may be out of balance though. Taste it and see what it lacks, and then you'll have more of a direction for your next...
