    BIAB Efficiency Change Help

Opps, you're right. Confusing that with my boil time.

    BIAB Efficiency Change Help

Doug, Thanks so much for your explanation. Not sure if you recall but you helped me last year while I was trying to design my own program for my unique E-Kettle BIAB system. You were nice enough to share your Mash and Lauter Simulator program with me. It helped greatly in developing my own...

    BIAB Efficiency Change Help

I do about what you do. My kettle as I posted is an oval 26" long by 13" wide by 16" deep and is 20 gallons. My mash spreads out pretty thin so I don't have any problems with dough balling. I continue to stir about every 15 minutes. Thanks much.

    BIAB Efficiency Change Help

A couple of things in regards to a longer mash. First I know that I will have to adjust my hop additions, is there any thing else to be concerned with by mashing longer? I read so much in regards to doing a mash out. Some do, some don't. Many say its only for stopping enzyme activity so you...

    BIAB Efficiency Change Help

Well if it's one thing I have learned brewing is to have patience. That will be easy if that's actually what it takes. Thanks.

    BIAB Efficiency Change Help

Thanks for your post. I too found my LHBS mill is set too coarse for BIAB. They don't change it and it's the only in the city. The other store we had closed down but would change it to what you wanted. Never had a problem then. As for sparging, that's one of the reasons I went with BIAB. It's...

    BIAB Efficiency Change Help

I've been doing BIAB brewing for several years. I took time off a couple of years ago to work on my system, create software from developers here and get an understanding on water issues I had with my well water. Since then things have gone well. I started kegging this spring and what a change...

    BH Efficiency Question.

I will most likely buy a mill at sometime but I love to build things on my own. That's how my system is and proud to say it's a dandy.

    BH Efficiency Question.

Thanks for the tip. Seeing I never did a sparge not sure if I needed to heat up the water. Even if I did wouldn't take much with the electric element.

    BH Efficiency Question.

Well lets just say, I'll mill the big grain bill at my LBHS but then will finish them on my home built mill. Shouldn't take as much work. I'll be using an electric drill to do the actual work.

    BH Efficiency Question.

Thanks everyone for your comments and suggestions. I really feel after thinking this through that my grains are not being milled fine enough at my LHBS. I realized this after reading all the posts and looking back on my past brews. It finally occurred to me that I wasn't running my circulation...
  12. Bigarcherynut

    BH Efficiency Question.

Thanks for your reply. When I first started BIAB I let my bag drip like you did. After I continued to read up on BIAB brewing I read many threads about squeezing. My hands did not care for it so that's when I decided to use the boards. Works great and no more burnt hands. I'm heavily leaning...
  13. Bigarcherynut

    BH Efficiency Question.

I understand what you are saying in regards to sugars left over and have thought about that with BIAB but also have read that squeezing helps with the removal. I definitely gain points and a good portion of wort squeezing with the boards. Maybe other BIAB brewers may comment on this concern...
  14. Bigarcherynut

    BH Efficiency Question.

Well I've spent a good part of my afternoon reading numerous other threads in regards to my problem. I also posted on another forum and had many ask about my LHBS and it's mill. I was lost when I saw my efficiencies drop off but now that I have read and processed some of the responses I'm...
  15. Bigarcherynut

    BH Efficiency Question.

My mash efficiencies were 79.1% for my first 10 gallon batch and was 69.3% for this batch. What I was trying to say about my mash pH was when I took my reading at 15 minutes in it was 5.01. I added 6 grams of baking soda and checked it to find it came up to 5.3. Normally I hit my pH dead on so...
  16. Bigarcherynut

    BH Efficiency Question.

Not sure how old or if the mill has ever been updated. I've been going there for the last two years since my other LHBS closed. The old shop would change the setting smaller for my grains. The current LHBS does not change the setting unfortunately.
  17. Bigarcherynut

    BH Efficiency Question.

Been brewing BIAB for about 6 years. Took a year off to get an understanding of water quality and to design my own software for the unique E-Kettle I built. Thanks to two software designers on HomeBrewTalk.com for their help. I now really have a system and program that has been working great. I...

    Replacing Lines. What Type??

Glad you asked about this. I'm hoping to brew a batch within the next week and it will be the first to be used with my kegging system. I bought 100' and was planning on starting with 20' lines at the same pressure. Hope to get some feedback on that length.

    Replacing Lines. What Type??

Didn't get them yet. Mine are all barbed currently but have worked with similar fittings on my RO system. They are nice.
