Top 5 things I wish I knew when I first started homebrewing.

Good article. Looking particularly @ point #1.

Saison yeast activity dropped off after short/weak fermentation.

It's @ 1.006 right now! Unfortunately I didn't take an OG reading. I didn't really care too and figured I would just estimate. Tastes pretty good. Too dark for what I wanted, but that's pretty meaningless. I'm going to stick it on my higher shelf, let it settle again and wait 5 - 7 days. Take...

Saison yeast activity dropped off after short/weak fermentation.

Just 1 slap pack into 5 gallons. I must admit that the wort was cooled to room temp when I pitched.

Saison yeast activity dropped off after short/weak fermentation.

So.... there was very little krausen and air moving through the airlock. Are these items irrelevant when it comes to actual fermenting.... @ least with this yeast strain? I'll check the gravity tomorrow.

Saison yeast activity dropped off after short/weak fermentation.

I brewed on 5/24 and fermentation started after about 24 hours. There was only 1/2" krausen for about 3 days then it just died down. I heated the room up to about 80 and shook up the primary a bit to try and reinvigorate. No dice. Should I just buy another slap pack of the same (or different)...

    Teflon tape

lol.... so confused I'm just going to put my PTFE on the tapered ends and be done with it. What pressure do the "highs" on my C02 regulator coming from my 10# tank actually see? Unrelated, slightly related: Also, when my professional friend came over to run my natural gas line to my kitchen...

Buy new dual vale regulator or convert my single?

Found something even better. Same manufacturer as my current regulator. Cheap. $40 for an add on. http://www.kegoutlet.com/co2-regulator-add-a-body-chudnow-left-handed-thread.html

So.... vigorous foaming blew the fermentation lock onto the floor. Help Please.

Ahhhhhhhh I see. I was pretty certain it was the yeast since this is the first hefeweizen. I'll know for sure next time and will at least me properly prepared.:cross:

    Easy Bottling from a Keg

Don't you need to purge the oxygen first?

Buy new dual vale regulator or convert my single?

I think I'll just buy the 3 guage, dual regulator. It will save me some headache and possibly some cash, especially after I sell my used current regulator. Screw turning my setup into some sort of frankenstien mess. Thanks for the advice.

Buy new dual vale regulator or convert my single?

    Yeah. 2 different serving pressures.

Buy new dual vale regulator or convert my single?

I went to the local gas supply store to try to get fittings, regulator, etc. to convert my single regulator(dual gauge) to a double, but had no luck. The idea was to convert my dual gauge regulator to something like this: But I just answered my own question I think. I already have a...

So.... vigorous foaming blew the fermentation lock onto the floor. Help Please.

I've been using Safale #5 mostly and a White Labs English ale once. Both types had pretty much identical krausen, BUT this batch, the krausen seems so much more light and airy. *shrug* I know for next time. Plus it turns out I was lucky. I ordered the Blichman beer gun and it had like 6 feet...

So.... vigorous foaming blew the fermentation lock onto the floor. Help Please.

I brewed my first hefewiezen last night and went to check on it 10 minutes ago only to find the fermentation lock on the floor and it foaming out the top. This is my 5th brew and I've never seen this happen. I typically brew 5 - 5.5 gallons in a 6.5 gallon carboy. Previous 4 times the foam never...

2 questions from noob. Removal of hop pellets & low FG's.

@wilconrad ahhh OK. just had that backwards. next batch I'll throw the timer on for 10 minutes and shake the **** out of the carboy till it goes off. I'm not buying additional gear if I don't have too. not for the sake of cost, but storage and less crap to fuss with. also, before I get the wort...

2 questions from noob. Removal of hop pellets & low FG's.

Had 2 questions. 1) When I poor the wort in the primary, am I supposed to be filtering out the boilings hops? I've only used pellets so far and have been just pouring EVERYTHING in the primary... Everything has tasted great so far, but just not sure what the status quo is on this. 2) Check...

First 2 brews not reaching expected FG...

I've thought about doing this, but it just seemed weird to me. Guess I should embrace my weirdness.

The suspense is killing me! (I have the patience of a gnat on crack)

sounds like my first brew back in february. my temp controller came in way too late when I was carbing my first batch in the keg, so I kept plugging in and unplugging the freezer throughout the week. the beer would freeze in the line, get hot, etc., etc. Still turned out great... by my...
