    Favorite Rum

Kraken is delicious, it goes really well with lemonade. It also comes in a cool bottle.

    Removing Particulate from Beer

I was afraid you'd say that, patience is a virtue I suppose. The strange thing is that it is still bubbling, I guess adding all the orange bits gave the yeasties something to do. Doesn't the fact that it is still fermenting effect the clarity?

    Removing Particulate from Beer

I'm coming down to the end of my two weeks waiting on my beer to be finished fermenting, and in the two times I've checked on it there has been a significant amount stuff floating on the surface. I am making an American Wheat Ale in which I substituted one half gallon of water for one which was...

    First Brew Day

I took a peek into the fermenter today and saw that there is still a significant amount of orange pieces and bits of hop pellets floating on the surface, is this just something that will clear out eventually? Or is this remedied by careful racking. Thanks

    Bottling

Awesome, I bottled a batch of Skeeter Pee, I just didn't know if the process was the same. I know that the protocol for allowing air into beer is different from that of wine.

    First Brew Day

Me either, I wish this site had smellovision, with the citrusy smelling hops, the lemon zest, and the blood orange, it smells so delicious. I just hope the final product is up to snuff. With this insane heat we've had in Missouri it seems like just the brew.

    Bottling

After my beer finishes fermenting in two weeks I plan on racking it into my bottling bucket, adding priming sugar, and then just putting it into the sanitized bottles. Is that a sound plan? I know that getting air into the brew is a nono, so I am at a loss for the proper procedure for bottling.

    First Brew Day

UPDATE So I went to check on my airlock earlier and noticed that there was no activity, upon further inspection I found that my bucket was not properly sealed! It has been like 8 hours or so probably since I last checked it. Will this be a problem?

    First Brew Day

Haha, Bloody Thumb American Wheat. That's gonna stick.

    First Brew Day

Yeah, I guess I didn't mention that. It was a lot of fun, not to mention my house smells delicious. I had never smelled hops prior to this experience and it was amazing, not like anything I had ever smelled. I'll be sure to keep you guys updated as it all comes together. Amazingly it is already...

    First Brew Day

I had my first brew day today, and it went fairly well. I followed the recipe of the American Wheat Ale kit from Northern Brewer with a couple of alternations. Blood Orange Ale 6# Wheat LME 4 Blood Oranges Boil 1 oz. Centennial Hops (60 min) 1 oz Cascade Hops (15 min) 1 Lemon Zested (10 min) 1...

    American Wheat Beer

I went ahead and brewed my beer today. It went well (except I burned the hell out of my fingers on the pot.):( I went ahead added the zest of one lemon with about ten minutes left in the boil and followed this procedure...

    American Wheat Beer

Awesome, how much would you say? And for how long?

    American Wheat Beer

I ordered the kit from Northern Brewer and I'm planning on having my very first (beer) brew day tomorrow. I was wondering if there were any easy things I could do to make the brew a little more summery. I recently tried Leinenkugel's Summer Wheat beer and soon fell in love. I'm not looking for a...

    Cheap Brew Pot

So nice I already ordered it lol. Having Amazon Prime sucks when you have to pay $80, but then it sucks less when you have free two day shipping on an item that probably weighs around five pounds.

    Cheap Brew Pot

I ordered my kit, and the one component I'm missing is an appropriately sized brew pot. Where can I find one that will work for a beginner and won't break the bank?

    Controlling temperature

All right, I'll be sure to keep the candy thermometer handy. What is a reasonably sized brew vessel? I saw some 12 quart pots at Target today for relatively cheap.

    Controlling temperature

Why is that? Temperature shock, off flavors, etc.? I'm glad that will work, having an unfinished basement worked out for once.
