Oh that was a starter!? Looks bad but only time will tell. Just put it in the fridge for a couple days, decant the spent beer, pitch your beer cold, and oxygenate as much as you can, and control your fermentation temp. I hope all works out!!!
I did a Helles with 830 a couple months ago (turned out nice). Never had much krausen at all and it definitely didn't get fluffy. Worst comes to worse you have a funky/sour lager.
No lid is necessary but when using blow off tubes be careful not to crash cool the beer as the liquid in the bucket will get sucked back into the tube and possibly your beer.
To all homebrewers out there struggling with keeping your hands off your bottle conditioned beers this may interest you. This is a picture I found of my NB chinook IPA after about 2 weeks bottle conditioning, and a couple days in the fridge before trying my first one.
This is the same beer...
That looks like normal blowoff from having not enough headspace which is fine. 1/2 inch tubing hooked up to a 3 piece airlock without the bell thing in it works out good to avoid messes.
I've used milled grain that was a month old with good results. I've heard if stored cool and dry it can be good for 3-6 months but that's pushing it IMO.
I work in Dubois and live in Reynoldsville. My name is pat. We need to get together sometime for a brew day or homebrew tasting for sure. I'd actually like to maybe try and get a small club started
The anchor brewing guys on the the BN's Sunday session said they have been using the same yeast since they started brewing anchor steam which was many many years ago, but I'm sure their yeast storage practices are a ton better than a homebrewers without lab grade equipment.
I have it in primary for a Nelson Sauvin/Galaxy Imperial IPA right now. Can't give tasting notes on it yet but it ferments like a bat out of hell!! Had to put a blow off on my bucket at about 15 hours into ferm. and it had krausen ozzing out the seams of my buckets lid.
I have a 1.082 OG imperial IPA in primary right now (used 1084 2 pack starter) on day 5 and when i checked on the beer about 15 hours into fermentation the beer was oozing out the seams of my bucket and i had an airlock full of murky krausen water. Needless to say this yeast is a freaking boss...
Yes I know of a very few but what a great hobby!! I have been to slagles and Terry's prices seen pretty awesome but I also support northern brewer since they support brewing tv and the brewing network which I love but I try to get as much from slagles as I can.... I live about 2 miles from...
I'm fairly new to homebrewing but have been at it strong for about a year and a half and my last 3 batches have been all grain with a cooler mlt. Looking for some locals to possibly start up a homebrew club to improve our craft and taste/critique local home brew.
