Is there anything else I should get? Equipment list.

I'll second the stainless steel. I love my SS Brew Bucket and the thermowell is a great added feature. A lot of people are very happy with their plastic fermenters. I am personally against them. I don't like the idea of plastic leeching into my beer. Whether it's food grade or not, plastic...

    HBC 342

I'm looking to brew my first NEIPA. I would love to hear from some brewers who have used this hop. What was your experience and what flavors did it impart?

    Considering getting into All-grain brewing.

In my case of upgrading to a 20 gallon system, I'm going the expensive route. I'm buying a kettle with custom welding and a lot of extra equipment. I could do everything cheaper, but want quality products, tailored to my specifications, that will last me as long I want to brew. I doubt after...

    Storing Bulk Grains Outside

I would assume that moisture would be the real killer here. Combined with heat in the summer I think this may not be the best idea, especially once you open a bag. I wouldn't even attempt that down here in FL.

    Considering getting into All-grain brewing.

Do you have a space where you could use a turkey burner with a propane tank? You can always look at going that route if you have the room to use that type of setup. And yeah it can get pricey... I'm looking upgrade from a 10 gallon kettle to a 20 gallon one and with the kettle I want, pumps, a...

    Considering getting into All-grain brewing.

I would invest in a 10 gallon (approximately 38 liters) pot to avoid boil over. If you don't want multiple pieces of equipment BIAB method may suit your needs, but I have not personally done it. That being said, if you are looking at 20-25 liter batches, and want to brew a Sahti, BIAB may be...

Mexican Cake clone info - directly from Westbrook Brewery

I didn't even think about that. I used nibs before and just added them to some vodka to sterilize. How long and what temp would you recommend roasting them at?

    Is a carboy necessary?

I second the brew bucket. I bought the one with the temperature probe. Anvil does make a stainless steel fermenter similar to SS Brerwtech's BrewBucket. If you don't care about the temp probe, it looks like a good option. I'm thinking of picking one up to use as a secondary fermenter. That being...

Where do you buy your spices?

I don't have any stores too close to me except a wholefoods about 30 minutes away although that may be a good idea to check out. I'll also look into the vendors listed here. Thanks for the help everyone!

Where do you buy your spices?

I'm looking to find a reputable online vendor to purchase some spices, like vanilla and cinnamon, for a stout I'm working on. Who do you prefer to order from?

How long to leave oak spirals in fermenter?

That's a lot longer than I had anticipated. I thought 1-2 weeks tops was going to do it. Guess I'll be letting this sit for a while longer now.

    Imperial Stout

I think the oxygenation issue is way over-hyped. You are already introducing oxygen anytime you transfer beer whether to a priming bucket or fermenter and regardless of using a spigot or siphon. It seems the effect a siphon would have on oxygenation would be minimal. You're only creating vacuum...

How long to leave oak spirals in fermenter?

I brewed an 5 gallon Imperial Stout batch about 3 weeks ago and transferred it to the secondary last night. I added 1 "Medium Char" oak spiral that I let soak in some Woodford Reserve for about a month. I have no experience using oak and most of the info I find is pertaining to oak chips. What...

Mexican Cake clone info - directly from Westbrook Brewery

Finding this thread was perfect timing because I planned on brewing a big stout and didn't have a recipe/direction. Then I stumbled across this! I brewed this to give to my groomsmen for my wedding coming up next year. I came up with a grain bill similar to several of the ones I found here and...

Where to Begin With Water Treatment?

It looks like Campden, a more comprehensive water report, and some additional research is the best place to start. Thank you!

When to add additional yeast pack or yeast nutrient?

I love additions when brewing. I'm doing a guava peanut butter brown ale so I'm adding guava paste and peanut butter extract to the secondary. I very OCD about sanitizing thanks to my friend.

When to add additional yeast pack or yeast nutrient?

The temp inside the fermenter crept up to 71.7 at it's peak, a little higher than I wanted, but I do not have a great form of temp control right now. I'm transferring to secondary tonight. Appreciate the help guys!
