Once you AG, do you extract?

This is why I took over the laundry room! I bought a house that was wired for an electric dryer, but I had a gas one. I had a plumber hook up the gas dryer but what to do with the unused 220V electric outlet. Hmmmm, what can I use that for?

Once you AG, do you extract?

Let's see, my electric AG system can crank out 10 gal in 4 hours. I use hot tap water that is passed through a filter, cuts heating my strike water time in half! 220V system with a plate chiller, and cooooooold water! I sparge into buckets and start my boil with the first running's, again saves...

    efficiency question... sitting around 60%

Grasshopper, you are missing the point. Efficiency, important is not! Consistency is paramount! If you can hit 60% each and every time, add more grain! The much bigger problem is when you are all over the board and can't predict what your gravity will be.

    Doubling up batches

I only do 10 gal batches. The best part is that you are getting twice the brew per production hour, and when the first awesome keg kicks, a second one is ready to tap!

Stumbled upon 40+lbs of Special B

Love, Love Love Special B! Great rasiney carmely taste! Try it in place of Chocolate malt, it's much less astringent. Great in almost anything dark. Don't be afraid to experiment!

    Pale barley brand and price

My favorite is Cargill 2 row pale that I buy from a local brewery for $40 for a 50lb sack. I have also had good results with Rahr and Canada Malting, both at around the same price. If you have a micro brewery in town, get to know the owner! He may sell to you and you can't beat the shipping!

My new favorite yeast! BRY-97 Baby!

I love this yeast! BRY-97! It's dry! It's cheap! It's clean! It drops like a rock when done! It's fast! Did I mention it's dry and cheap? I have used this in 3, 10 gal all grain batches and each one was very clean, with a good malt backbone, and the hops shine through. And clear as a...

What is Your Efficiency - batch Spargers

Grasshopper, you are missing the point. It is not important what your efficiency is, it IS important that your efficiency be consistent! (Mine is allways a couple of points around 75%)

    Plastic water bottle as secondary?

I used to work for a very large bottled water company. Those 5 gal carboys will work fine. You would have to leave your beer in one for many, many, MANY months before you would see any oxidization. Bottled water will pick up off flavors very quickly, that's why it has a shelf life. The shelf...

    milling problem...

I use something like this: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0000BYEF6/?tag=skimlinks_replacement-20 I plug my corded dewalt drill into it. Set the trigger lock, and adjust the speed with the dimmer. I can then run 20+lbs of grain through my maltmill in about 10 to 12 min.

Any have an opinion on using weldless fittings with a keggle?

Why use weld less fittings? 1. Simple 2. Cheaper 3. You can do it at home.

Monster Mill MM3-2.0 vs Schmidling MaltMill - help!

I have been using my maltmill for well over 10 years. It's non adjustable, and does not have the gear option. I drive it with a dewalt corded drill, wired to a dimmer control. I lock the drills trigger in the on position and use the dimmer to set the speed. 20+ lbs of grain takes me about 10...

    beer water filtration

One quick thing about using RO water. RO water is essentially the same as distilled water. If you use RO water you may want to consider adding back some of the "stuff" that makes water taste good. The best part about using RO water is that you can "build" water from any region in the...

Portable Co2 kit for corny kegs ...

I got tired of fools throwing the CO2 cartridges into campfires, trying to inhale the CO2, and other stupid stuff. If I expect to kill the keg, I just bring this: http://mountainhomebrew.com/browseproducts/Hand-Pump-For-Ball-Lock-Keg.html This seems to be drunkin ****** proof, but you never...

    Question about chilling my wort

The cheapest is to just do a no chill and pitch your yeast the next day. Or cough up $60 for this: http://www.dudadiesel.com/choose_item.php?id=HX1220BWC
