    Aroma Hops For American Wheat

Thanks for the advice everyone! Although it is probably the smart thing to just brew the kit the way it is...I'm way too excited to try and add my own "twists" to a brew, so I'll end up adding the honey and probably dry hopping with something. I think I will add the honey at flame-out so...

    Aroma Hops For American Wheat

Thanks, so the Cascade hops added 15 minutes before the end of the boil should add enough aroma, or can I add some at the end of the boil when I add all my honey for even more aroma?

    Aroma Hops For American Wheat

For my 2nd batch I got an American Wheat extract kit from NB. The hops used are Willamette (60min) and Cascade (15min). Could someone explain briefly what the function of each of these are, whether it's bitterness, or aroma? I was thinking of adding another kind of hop to the mixture to make...

    IPA w/ Bourbon?

Personally, my favorite is Pendleton, followed by Maker's Mark if I want something sweeter and less harsh. Not sure what I'll add to this upcoming beer though. I'm glad to hear it's not a horrible idea at least! Although I am doing extract brewing so I may have trouble balancing it as someone...

    IPA w/ Bourbon?

I was just curious if my next idea might be too weird in case anyone has tried it. I want to make a pretty aggressive Black IPA, but was thinking of adding 1/2 to1 cup of my favorite bourbon to the secondary before I rack it over. On top of the dry-hopping (not sure with what yet, maybe...

    Bottled Beer at Room Temp

Thanks, I'll keep them all at room temp then (which is around 70F).

What if I don't enjoy homebrewing?

Firstly, thank you for your service, and secondly, you WILL love this hobby, I have faith! I was skeptical at first, but by the time I put my grains in the boiling water I was giddy with the fact that I was creating beer, something that man has been doing for generations. I just tasted my...

    Bottled Beer at Room Temp

My first brew has finally been in the bottle for almost 4 weeks and it is DELICIOUS!!! I couldn't believe it. This beer went from an "okay" odd taste with 0 carbonation at the 2 week mark to a glorious 3-finger head and great taste/aroma at 3 weeks. So now that it's drinkable, is it okay to...

    First Brew is Bottled!

Well after wrestling with it for a few hours last night my first batch of homebrew is sitting in their new 12oz homes carbonating! I used Brewcraft carbonation drops so we'll see how they work. My siphon stopped working on the last 6-pack of bottles, so I got 42 12oz bottles and one 16oz...

How much is too much: Hydrometer readings taking my beer away!

Just buy a wine thief for $10 and your problems are solved! That competes with my Autosiphon for favorite piece of equipment so far that makes life easier.

    Long Paint Tray

Yeah, the person making the video had a slight lisp or something, but no big deal, he still makes informative videos!

    Stopper Won't Seal Carboy

Thanks, paper towel worked like a charm. Just 2 more weeks until bottling!

    Stopper Won't Seal Carboy

Emergency! (Maybe). I just racked my brew to a secondary carboy, everything went perfect except that now my plug (with airlock inserted) won't seat around the mouth of the carboy? Everything is still wet from the StarSan solution, should I dry off the plug and carboy mouth with a towel and...

    Long Paint Tray

Thanks for the advice everyone. Home Depot was closer so I hit them up first, and ended up going with a plant tray. It was about $9 and just the right size, so now I can rack to secondary today (it's been in the primary for 2 weeks now). :mug:

    Long Paint Tray

I'm racking to secondary today and want one of those plastic trays that are fairly long (like 2'-3') but thin so that I can keep all my sanitized goodies (plug, hydrometer, hosing, autosiphon, etc.) in a StarSan bath while I prepare. Does anyone know a good place to grab these, like Home Depot...

    from brew pot to primary

I just dumped everything into the primary and will be using a secondary to clear it up. However, I haven't bottled it yet so after this I may try siphoning/straining the wort.

    SG or Balling?

Thanks for this, I may be doing something wrong though since I'm getting a Plato value of 25.22 haha. Hmmm...

    SG or Balling?

The recipe said 1-2 weeks primary, then 2-3 weeks secondary, then 1-2 weeks in bottle. I purchased a secondary vessel because I'd like the ability to not only clear the beer, but also dry hop IPA's.

    SG or Balling?

I haven't bottled yet, it's only been in Primary for 7 days. I'm wondering if it's too soon to move to Secondary (the krausen is all gone, smooth surface, and smells wonderful!).
