Do you crush your flaked wheat more for BIAB?

Title says it all. I've been reading up on how to improve my efficiency, and I believe that my crush isn't fine enough for BIAB. I ordered a knock off corona from discount tommy. That being said in a few days I am planning on brewing a hefeweizen and wasn't sure if I should re-crush the...

First Recipe with the help of BeerSmith

Thanks Yooper. I'm still trying to understand all the different grains and how they effect the types of beer. I definitely don't want anything too sweet. Also not sure about the oak cubes but thought they seemed a little fun.

Scottish Heavy Darkside Duck Scottish Heavy

Just curious how this turned out. I am creating a Wee Heavy recipe now and I had also seen the part about caramelizing. Wondered how you liked the beer or if you'd tweak anything.

You know I'll have to look that up. I originally had the og up there but beer smith told me I was way too high. You my dear are correct -https://www.homebrewtalk.com/wiki/index.php/Wee_Heavy

First Recipe with the help of BeerSmith

When I made this before I added them to secondary. I might not secondary at all and just add them the last 10 days of fermentation. I'm not sure if it makes a difference one way or the other but this is what I did before. thoughts?

First Recipe with the help of BeerSmith

    Well that is easy enough, Thanks for the feedback :) - For the Wee Heavy - 5 lbs 14.3 oz Golden Promise (Simpsons) (2.0 SRM) 80.3 % 7.5 oz Caramel/Crystal Malt - 60L (60.0 SRM) 6.4 % 7.5 oz Victory Malt (25.0 SRM) 6.4 % 5.9 oz Crystal 100 (55.8 SRM)...

And while I am at it I decided to create a Scottish Wee Heavy recipe- Any recommendations here are also welcome. :) 5 lbs 14.3 oz Golden Promise (Simpsons) (2.0 SRM) 80.3 % 7.5 oz Caramel/Crystal Malt - 60L (60.0 SRM) 6.4 % 7.5 oz Victory Malt (25.0 SRM)...

First Recipe with the help of BeerSmith

Any critiques or help with this. I was playing around and tweaked a recipe that I had used before. It's just a traditional IPA. I don't know if adding two different kinds of pale malt will do anything but their descriptions did mention that they offer slightly different flavor so I thought it...

    Where to begin

Well you could still plant them but honestly I'd just wait until you move and start them there. People have successfully container planted but hops need very large containers for their roots. If you plant them in the ground then you have to fight to get them out, moved, and replanted without...

    Female Home brewer's Club

Nice to meet you. I'm the main "brewer" in our house but my husband helps when he is home. My LHBS is awesome as well. I really enjoy going in there. How cool that you started your own homebrew club. That is awesome! I should do that, all of the clubs around here are too much of a pain to...

    a hop-free beer?

Just a little nerdy knowledge for you but hops have not always been a part of beer. In fact they were only added to beer making in the 14th century as a way to keep beer from spoiling. :)

Karl Strauss: Red Trolley Ale Clone?

I appreciate the feedback. This is my first time doing an all-grain and so I am unfamiliar with how each grain works together or how they fit into a beer. I was just following the recipe. It's done now. I'll have to see how bad it is in a few weeks, but now I know. :)

I have no idea what I did (First BIAB)

I did something similar with my grains. I got tired of holding them so I brought out my big colander and stuck it over a smaller stock pot I have and let it finish draining. I probably got another 2L from the grain. It was a nice lazy way to get the most from the bag. :)

Do you mark your brew kettle?

Thanks for all the great advice. I'm nervous about drilling a hole in my brew pot somehow I'd manage to mess it up. If I weren't such a wimp I love the idea of the no weld gauge. Until then I think i'll mark my mash paddle. Thanks.

No DME for starter can you use just yeast nutrient

OK I made a starter from the grain I had. It's now in the primary so we'll see how it turns out. What's the worst that can happen?

I have no idea what I did (First BIAB)

That seem's to be the general consensus about the crystal. I'm too much of a newb to understand the effects of different grains. Hopefully it doesn't taste like I am licking a bag of sugar. Thanks for the encouragement. When I first pulled the grain my efficiency was 59 or 61 so I stuck...

I have no idea what I did (First BIAB)

Propane outside but in the garage. It was cold today so I was worried about getting up to the right temperature.
