True Brew Oaked Imperial Stout Modification

I've had a True Brew Oaked Imperial Stout in primary for 2 weeks. INGREDIENT LIST * Hopped Dark Malt Extract (1 can) * Unhopped Dark Malt Extract (1 can) * Light Dried Malt Extract (1 lb) * Dark Dried Malt Extract (1 lb) * Dark Crystal Grain Malt (.25 lb) * Roasted...

Victory Hop Deveil Clone - How long before Airlock Bubbles?

I guess I was being impatient. When I got home last night the beer was bubbling like crazy, and when I got up this morning, I had a partial blow off. The coloring of the beer looks FANTASTIC, and the aroma of the CO2 coming out of the fermentation chamber smells, outstanding. Here's to a...

Victory Hop Deveil Clone - How long before Airlock Bubbles?

That's a good suggestion. I didn't really take a look to see if I have any foam on top, but I'll do that when I get home for the evening. However, how long should I wait before I start to get worried that the yeast wasn't any good. I'm a little nervous because I didn't make a starter, so I...

Victory Hop Deveil Clone - How long before Airlock Bubbles?

I brewed, and pitched, my second batch of beer last night (5/4) at around 8pm. I figured that by now I should be seeing CO2 coming from the airlock. But as of 7am this morning (5/5), nothing. I am being too impatient? When should I expect to see CO2 being released from the airlock? I brewed...

That's a great idea! I've got to be honest though, I HATE Magic Hat #9.

    Reading Beer Recipes

I've already brewed a recipe using a True Brew Kit. Things look like they are going well so far. Here are the instructions listed for the recipe I'm interested in preparing. Is this considered a "partial mash"? 1.Soak the cans of malt extract in hot water for 20-30 minutes so that the syrup...

    Reading Beer Recipes

I'm looking to order some ingredients so that I can follow the recipe below. The issue I'm having is that I really don't understand what these ingredients are, or more specifically, what the numbers mean after some of the ingredients. I want to order through Midwest Supply. Does anyone have...

    Better-Bottle vs. Glass

Being a new brewer, I've been persuaded to ditch the 6.5 gallon glass carboy that came with my K6 kit, and move to better bottles. I just ordered four 6 gallon better bottles from Midwest supplies. Add 4 rubber stoppers and 4 airlocks and shipping and I'm getting all of this for under $120.00...

    Better-Bottle vs. Glass

So is it simply inevitable then that a 6.5 gallon glass carboy will eventually break?

    Better-Bottle vs. Glass

Just out of curiosity. Aside from dropping a glass carboy, what would/could cause a glass carboy to break and shatter?

Oxyclean... hmmm that's interesting. Does this work well?

I've heard that glass carboy's are much easier to keep sanitized then the plastic carboys, any truth to this? Bottles do have a certain authenticity and allure to them. However, I'm thinking about building a bar in my basement, and nothing looks more authentic then having a half dozen or so...

Yes, this I can already tell. I'm already looking to pick up a couple more glass carboy's and air locks so that I can get a couple other batches fermenting. And I'm thinking about kegging instead of bottling. I think I should slow down.

Greetings. I just got into this "hobby" this weekend. I bought a K6 brewing kit at Beers of the World and made my first batch of True Brew Oaked Imperial Stout. So far, it's fermenting like crazy in the carboy. Seems like things are going well.
