    Starter Problem....

Thanks for the quick reply. I suppose I'll go ahead and get on the brewing today then! Austin

    Starter Problem....

So, after reading how great everyone's fermentation is when they make starters, I smacked my smack pack on Wednesday evening. Thursday night after work, I took my expanded smack pack, made a starter based on the "Starter FAQ" thread here. I did the following: 2.5 cups of water 3/4 cup of...

Sanyo 4912 with a Freezer -- Is it tall enough?

Ok, one more question from me about the Sanyo 4912... I'm going to look at one after work that someone is selling on craigslist... she's not sure what model number it is. Where do I find the model number on the refrigerator (so that I can tell quickly whether it'll work or not when I get...

Sanyo 4912 with a Freezer -- Is it tall enough?

When I asked that question a week or so ago, I was told that the trays themselves actually contain a set of cooling lines. Therefore, you MIGHT be able to bend them downward (i.e. down the back of the fridge), but you would risk breaking the lines and causing coolant leaks. Austin

Sanyo 4912 with a Freezer -- Is it tall enough?

Yeah, I didn't see anywhere that had a 4912 with a freezer either... But the guy insisted that it had a freezer compartment in the top. It's sold now anyway, so I'll probably pick one up from Best Buy instead of waiting for another one to show up on Craigslist. I'm also checking in to a 5.0...

What commercial beers are in your 'fridge?

Let's see... We just got back from the specialty beer shop so we have so "normal" stuff, plus some good stuff! 4 Woodchuck ciders (my wife's) Some crap that people have left at our house: 2 Bacardi things that my sister left here 2 Coors cans... we have some friends that love that stuff... 1...

Sanyo 4912 with a Freezer -- Is it tall enough?

Ok, sounds like a no-go... I'll keep watching or pick up a new one, but $85 would have been awesome. Thanks! Austin

Sanyo 4912 with a Freezer -- Is it tall enough?

As my subject says, is the interior height of the Sanyo 4912 (with a freezer compartment) tall enough to fit a corny keg in with connections? It seems that the only fridges I come across on craigslist have freezer compartments... However, this one is just $85 (vs. the new price) so I'd be...

When does the beer start tasting good?

I just racked my first brew (a wheat) to secondary yesterday and tasted some. I thought it actually was pretty good for being flat and only 7 days old! Austin

    Falling Krausen

Ok, I just took a gravity reading and it was 1.011... just below the 1.012 specified by the kit instructions so I think I'm good to go for racking to secondary. Austin

    Falling Krausen

So with the time that it's spend in primary and the slowed down bubbling, do you think it'd be ok to rack to secondary?
  12. mcaustin

    Falling Krausen

Ok, so I brewed last Sunday, and my wheat brew has been in my primary carboy since then. The airlock activity has now slowed down to about 2 bubbles per minute. I've been searching through threads about when to rack to secondary, and keep reading that I need to wait for the krausen to fall...

    Possible kegerator fridge found?

Hey everybody that's made a kegerator.... Search on craigslist just now, I found the following fridge. http://seattle.craigslist.org/see/for/232944411.html It is a 4.9 cubic foot fridge, but does have a freezer in the top (not sure if I could take it out or not), but I emailed the guy and...

    How warm is too warm?

Ah, thanks for the quick reply. I'll keep the heat turned down just a touch from where it was (warmest room in the house) and keep an eye on it. Austin

    How warm is too warm?

I got my first batch going yesterday (a cherry wheat kit from Midwest). Today, the airlock is bubbling away, but the temperature has increased from a steady 69 degrees to about 72-73 degrees. At what temperature do I need to make sure it doesn't get any warmer? I've turned down the heat to...

    Newbie in Seattle

Well my kit came early Saturday morning, and I brewed my first batch yesterday afternoon, a Cherry Wheat. I believe that everything went pretty well. As of this morning, I have some krausen forming in my primary and its bubbling away. I forgot to take a hydrometer reading before pitching...

I ordered my equipjment the other day and received my tracking number yesterday afternoon... Scheduled for delivery on 11/4! I'll be starting with a wheat beer and I went ahead and got the 125mL smack pack for my yeast. Can't wait! Austin

Thanks Brewtopia and Smogman! I'll go with the glass carboys. It looks like the shipping is the same for either option oddly. Ok, last question before I order... Yeast... Dry, Smack Pack or Liquid? I've read that the dry yeast can yield inconsistent flavors. Is there any reason that a...

Ok, I guess I'll start my question asking now... Midwest offers their intermediate kit with either glass carboys or better bottles. Is one or the other better for a beginner? Thanks, Austin

Yep, I've been working my way through howtobrew.com, and I'm mostly reading through all of the opinions regarding what I actually need to get started. Right now I'm thinking about one of the intermediate kits from Midwest. Austin
