    Stealth Brewing

It was 28 degrees last night at 1:45 am when the boil finished. I did a no chill. Racked to the fermenter this morning after making some coffee. Just got below 70 degrees (it's 4:00pm) and pitched the yeast.

    Stealth Brewing

I ended up being really tired by the end. Glad I got it done, but not my favorite way to brew.

    Stealth Brewing

Anyone else sneak in brew days after your wife & kids go to bed? Doing one tonight, probably brew a few times a year like this. It's not as much fun as having the guys over, but I've got to keep the pipeline going.

    Stainless steel pint

I got a stainless steel pint for Christmas. What's the deal with these? Are they mainly for keeping your beer cold?

    1st mead: stuck fermentation?

I can read it. I just brewed last weekend & hit my numbers. I added some more yeast to the mead & moved it to an upstairs closet.

    1st mead: stuck fermentation?

Maybe the yeast was too old? Also, my basement is usually 62 degrees. I'll try to add some fresh yeast & bring it upstairs.

    1st mead: stuck fermentation?

On 9/7/16, I made Joe's Ancient Orange Mead. There was slow bubbling during the first weeks, but nothing crazy. Transferred it today & the gravity is 1.086. It's supposed to be a quick mead. Should I just give it time? Should I add some yeast? Also, there's a little head space now that I...

    first Lamic

9 months until first sampling, that all. if it seems like it's going to be decent, then I'll try another one with grains to compare them. I have extra carboys laying around but all my bottles are full.

    first Lamic

filtered tap water. I figured it's an experiment to see what happens.

    first Lamic

I began brewing two years ago, with the advice of a friend, started out all grain. After listening to a Brewing Network podcast about straight lambic, I was interested in something Jamil said. During the recipe segment, he said you can make a Lambic using DME without boiling. I have only brewed...

FG too high, any saving this beer?

it was an interpretation of Yooper's Oatmeal Stout. It didn't finish high after all. I've been brewing for 2 years, but this was my first oatmeal stout. my beers typically finish with a lower final gravity. here's the recipe: 9 lbs. Maris Otter 1 lb. flaked oats 12 oz melanoiden malt 1 lb...

FG too high, any saving this beer?

**update** gravity now at 1.020 after 17 days fermenting. two lessons learned: 1) listen to those who know. after moving the better bottle to my son's closet on the second floor (vs the basement) the temp sticker on the outside went from 61 to 63 for a couple days. 2) be patient with your...

    BIAB induction burner reflectix question?

thank you for the responses. I think that I'll go with a double or triple wrap held on with some type of bungee cords. Tim

    BIAB induction burner reflectix question?

I am making the switch from BIAB (propane with a Keg) to BIAB (induction with a Tallboy.) I bought some reflectix today. do most people tape it on or do you temporarily put on the insulation? For those who tape it on, is your kettle a hassle to clean while keeping the reflectix dry? Tim

FG too high, any saving this beer?

I moved it upstairs into my son's closet. I'll leave it there for 3 days. thanks for all the help. I'll provide an update in a few.....

FG too high, any saving this beer?

update: I swirled the better bottle around to rouse the yeast. the thermometer in my brew space reads 63 & the temperature on the better bottle reads 61. my plan is to wait a week to see where the gravity is at. if not satisfied, I will probably add some dry 05 yeast.

FG too high, any saving this beer?

the OG was 1.070. I used WLP 002. I currently do not have a fermentation belt or temp controller. I guess I could put it on a heating pad, rouse the yeast & see what happens. I have no problem being patient with it. I guess if the gravity doesn't come down in two weeks I'll consider purchasing a...
