    Kolsch Yeast

No issues with WLP029 in Va Beach. Just kicked a keg of Kolsch. It's one of my house beers

    Brew Table Complete

Thanks for the comments Soulshine2. The table is on casters so it will be wheeled into the driveway for brew day

    Brew Table Complete

I found the design at: http://pintwell.com/2014/jan/17/wood-brew-stand-plans/ Looks a bit odd at first glance, but the originators reasoning was a design that only required one pump with priority given to gravity feeding the mash tun. I believe I'll get some gravity feed from the mash tun to...

    Your Top 5 Hop Combo's or Trio's

I was gifted a ton of hops from a local micro. Way more than I will be able to use before they loose quality - luckily I have some homebrew friends in the area that I can share with. Looking for ideas to use some up in 10gal batches. What are your Top 5 Hops Combo's or Trio's for your...

    Explaining BIAB to New Brewer

I love BIAB. I usually do traditional all grain with a HLT, MLT w/recirc & fly sparge and BK, but it's an 8hr day with clean up. Today I did a BIAB - mostly because I wanted to brew, but didn't have a lot of time. I brewed the Dr. Smurto's Golden Ale BIAB recipe that's in the Beer Smith...

NEED GUIDANCE: Single Tier "vs" Two Tier Brew Stand

Nope, love BIAB!! Two of my best beers were done that way and still use that method when I don't have the time for a traditional all grain day. Was gifted a 20gal Ss BrewTech Mash Tun for Christmas and have been collecting bits and pieces for a full all grain system over the past year...

NEED GUIDANCE: Single Tier "vs" Two Tier Brew Stand

I am finally ready to build a brew stand, but curious about a few things. I welcome all pro “vs” con feedback regarding one/two tier configurations, but these are my specific questions/concerns. 1. In a single tier, I imagine gravity would move wort at the beginning of knock out, but as...

    What the F'ing Haze

Havent gone down the gelatin route yet. I have another 5gal Kolsch keg sitting in the garage conditioning before going into the keezer while drinking my first 5gals. Perhaps I'll try the gelatin on that. I am however, using warflock 15mins before flame out on the boil.

    What the F'ing Haze

Wort coming out of my mash tun is VERY clear. Post boil after the plate chiller into the fermenter is also VERY clear. Finished beer in the fermenter is see-through clear. Why is my beer coming out of the keg hazy? I brewed a Kolsch and everything is to style except for the clarity. I've...

Anyone aspiring to open a brewery?

I you want to sell for profit, I interrupt this as being owner and/or managing the operation of a brewery - not being the brewmaster. I believe that the one and the other are apples and oranges. Unless you are thinking about a very small operation, it would be very difficult to effectively and...

Is my yeast stuck or is my beer dead?

If you aerated finished beer, even if the FG is too high, I fear it's going to get worse due to oxidization.

    possible infection

Hard to tell from that angle, but looks kinda normal. What kind of yeast and what kind of beer? Should be getting a nice foamy krausen around now - that looks more solid.

    Quick and easy cider recipes?

Try using White Labs WLP775 English Cider Yeast - I am a huge fan. I often make 1gal batches using Old Orchard Apple concentrate. Sometimes I mix it with organic cold pressed cherry, tart cherry, white grape juice or some other non-citrus juice. White labs say's it will ferment out to ~12%...

    Cider, well,..... maybe wine

Believe I will be wrong in either forum. Used a 3rd generation yeast (WLP775) = made 1 X 5gal and 1 X 1gal batches of basic 5% hard apple cider first. Didn't intend on the high OG, but will let it ride. If lucky enough to get full or close attenuation [1.090 to 1.010/~11%], I will be...

    OGs Consistently Too High

How much higher?? When I did kits, I found the projected OG in the instructions to be pretty close, if not spot on. How are you taking your reading - Hydrometer?? Also, if you are putting 5 gallons of liquid into your fermenter, you are probably pulling only 4 1/2 out due to troub. Your can...

    Long Term Cider Project

PART II: Ok,...so I let the cider sit on the cherries for three weeks. It cleared and is sitting at 1.007 from 1.055. I racked 3 1/2 gals into a smaller carboy and the remaining into a 1 gal jug. I picked up some Cherry pulp in the one gallon, but that is ok. I really love what the...

MTSs Temp Control for InfuSsion Mash Tun

Have you bought one and is it worth it? I was fortunate enough to get a 20gal Ss Brew Tech Mash Tun for Christmas - it's HUGE and weighs 50lbs. I've made two 10gal brews with it so far and lost 5degs each time despite preheating. That said, it was only 40degs outside.

How many gallons of homebrew in 2017?

Brewed 10 gallons of Kolsch. Put 5 gals in the temp controlled Ss Conical at 65degs and 5 gal in a glass carboy at room temp (~70degs). Will be interesting to see how the fermentation temps ultimately effect these two batches. 180.5 + 10 = 190.5 gallons
