    Critique my water profile

I guess it's a good opportunity for me to experiment. After I finish this one, I'll do it again with the different amounts of chloride and sulfate.

    Critique my water profile

Approximately 160ppm sulfate, 50 ppm chloride

    Dry hop overkill?

(I edited my original post, because I think it may not have been clear that I was planning to dry hop with 5.75 oz of Amarillo hops) Thinking more about this.... I've been thinking a lot about the sulfate to chloride ratio, which in my beer is about 3:1 (164:51). I'm thinking that the beer is...

    Critique my water profile

Reviving an old thread. I was worried because there is conflicting information on the intrawebs and in at least one book. In the book "Brewing beyond the basics, Mr. Karnowski says that a 3:1 sulfate to chloride ratio is good for a hop forward beer. On the America Homebrewers Association...

    Dry hop overkill?

Thank you. I will take a look at this recipe. I really like IPAs that have a slight bread flavor. I'm hoping that the victory will contribute a little bit of this flavor.

    Dry hop overkill?

Interesting. I didn't consider this. Is this the main reason for multiple dry hops in a carboy? Otherwise, is there really any reason to split up the hops?

    Dry hop overkill?

I just brewed an IPA last night. Going for low-bitterness, heavy dry hop. I guess you could say, NE style IPA. Single hop with Amarillo. 5 gallon recipe, but I can tell already I'm going to end up closer to 4 gallons. That's probably important when considering the amount of dry hopping. Grain...

    Evaluation of grain crush

That definitely looks a lot different from mine. This is part of the response I got from the company. "The majority of grain in a good crush should have two things - exposed endosperm and an intact hull. That appears to be the case with your grains, so I would call that a good crush. You...

Challenger VI posts and poppets - Fitting issue

Ordered some plastic dip tubes! Thanks everyone for the advise/suggestions.

    Evaluation of grain crush

This thread is actually shedding more light on possible errors in my calculations than anything else. I'm glad I asked the question. 10 lbs Munich malt 4 lbs 2-row 2 lbs roasted barley 2 lbs chocolate malt 0.5 lbs black patent malt 0.5 lbs barley, flaked 10.5 gal rectangular cooler...

    Evaluation of grain crush

I've tried responding to this post 3 times, and each time I erase what I wrote because I notice something strange in my estimates using Beersmith. I'm not sure if my recipe was changed accidentally, if I copied the estimates incorrectly when I wrote them in my brew log, or...I don't know. I will...

    Evaluation of grain crush

Our last brew was an imperial stout. It was our first all-grain brew. Shooting for an OG of approximately 1.120, we had plenty of grain in our mash. I was not expecting a high efficiency, but what we got was pretty damn low. Somewhere under 60%. Depending on which calculator I use, it is either...

Challenger VI posts and poppets - Fitting issue

Thanks for the feedback. I will see if it holds the pressure before looking for a replacement. Have you done this drilling on multiple kegs? I am wondering what the success rate is, i.e. is there a good chance I will mess up my keg doing this? I have read about this, but am afraid to try it.

Challenger VI posts and poppets - Fitting issue

I just got 2 used 5 gal Challenger VI kegs. I wanted to change out the poppets on the gas and liquid side, as well as the dip tube for the gas side because they are currently old plastic ones that look kinda crummy. I purchased poppets specifically for the Challenger VI. I messed up on the dip...

Pitching temp of yeast, not wort

My plan now is to make 2000ml starter, then to place in fridge to separate the yeast from rest of starter. I understand the need to get the wort down to a certain temperature before pitching. So, I am going to place my wort in the temp controlled fermentation chamber without the yeast for a...

PLEASE let the Northern Brewer buy-out be a hoax!

And now I don't see the tagboard at all :/

PLEASE let the Northern Brewer buy-out be a hoax!

I think Norther Brewer might be conducting damage control now. Not long ago, someone tweeted the first of presumably many negative comments against the company. Looks like they quickly turned back the clock to show tweets from many days ago, so as not to risk their home page being filled with...

Anheuser-Busch InBev Acquires Northern Brewer & Midwest Supplies

The fact that Anheuser-Busch made a Super Bowl commercial bashing Craft Beer is the main reason this pisses me off. They are not for craft beer, and therefore, they are not for home brewing. What a slap in the face. If they are trying to crush craft beer by spending all of that money on a Super...
