    Head Room in Growlers?

Revvy, it's fitting that you posted that because it was your post in the thread I Iinked that finally convinced me not to use my growlers. Thanks for helping again. That's probably the 5th time this week, lol. You and unionrdr must be really nice guys judging by how much you help others. :)

    Head Room in Growlers?

I've decided not to risk it based on the replies here and this other thread I found:https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f39/bottle-conditioning-growler-78808/index3.html

    Head Room in Growlers?

Were they flip-top? The flip-top growlers I have are just like the ones they sell on northern brewer. People are always saying rhey use Grolsch bottles, so I figured it was possible. Now I have to decide whether or not to risk it... Has anyone else done this?

    Head Room in Growlers?

Well, I'm glas I asked. I don't know how any new brewer survives without these formus. Thanks!

    Head Room in Growlers?

I've been afraid they wouldn't hold pressure, but I'm hoping putting something around the cap, maybe heat-shrink, will seal it completely. I filled a growler at a brewery once from their tap and they put heat-shrink on the growler top. It still had great carbonation over a week later. I...

    Head Room in Growlers?

Does anyone have experience bottle conditioning in growlers? I have flip top and cap style growlers, both kinds are 64 oz. How much head space should I leave. I really don't want to destroy them, especially because a couple may not be mine.

    Depth of hydrometer sample

Really? That's amazing that the clearer stuff on top won't read differently than the stuff on the bottom. Thanks for the help!

    Depth of hydrometer sample

When grabbing a sample with a wine thief, does the depth the sample is taken from have an impact? It seems like it would considering how different the beer looks near the bottom, but I can't find anyone commenting on how deep they take their sample from. I have a pretty long thief should I...

A sad day.. I think my first batch is getting dumped...

Thanks for the reassurance everyone. I'll give it time as long as the smell doesn't get out of control. I'm sorry for freaking out. I'm sure there are countless threads like this...

A sad day.. I think my first batch is getting dumped...

I've thought about this quite a bit today after researching for hours... and it seems like my batch is ruined. I'm going to take a good long look at it whe. I get home, but I think I'm going to dump it. This is my first batch and I've made a few mistakes: 1. I boiled hopped extract...

    Starsan Odor

I took my first hydrometer reading a couple of days ago. I used a small amount of starsan. I used about a gallon of water, so i eyed about 1/5th of an ounce of starsan. I seperated a small cup of the solution and used it to refill my airlock. After i was done, i noticed a smell on my arms...

    Sanitizing with oven

Thanks for the replies. When you say you put them in a single layer, do you put them on or in something like a cookie sheet with edges or a shallow glass dish?

    Vinators without bottle tree

    Sanitizing with oven

When you sanitize/sterilize bottles in the oven, what do youmput them on or in? Also, about how long should they cool before bottling?

    Vinators without bottle tree

Are there any vinators that don't fit onto a bottle tree, becuase i don't have a tree. They all seem to be advertised to fit on top of trees. Can those types be used on a counter instead?

    I picked a bad spot...

I didn't take an OG reading. I had an unexpected chance to brew and that was one thing I hadn't learned how to do it yet. I know it's simple but i just concentrated on the basic process figuring I would do it next time when I'm not worrying about so many other things. My wife is already...

    I picked a bad spot...

Thanks for the replies. I moved my carboy to our bedroom closet because I decided it was worth pissing my wife off to save the beer. If anything it gets too cold in there when the door is shut. I left it cracked last night and the temp this morning was 66-70 so around 68 degrees (assuming...
