My keg system has sat for about 2-3 years what should I do to get it ready?

Thanks!!! Will do all of the above, love this quote by the way... The slit on the top that looks like a screw driver slot is in fact a screw driver slot.

My keg system has sat for about 2-3 years what should I do to get it ready?

Well, name says it all. My kegerator has been sitting for about 2 - 3 years due to a move and inconvenience of trying to brew at my old place. Finally in a new house with room to do it again. I have a batch aging as we speak and another about to go into the brew kettle. Question is...

    Ale, with WLP500 Trappist yeast?

I have a starter of WLP500 trappest yeasts left over from a high gravity quad I brewed about 15 days ago. I am going to make another beer next week, I am wondering if this WLP500 will do all-right making a Brown Ale type beer. Also, how long should that starter last under refridgeration. I...

Does this look like an infection?

Cool, I will keep y'all posted.

Is this normal? Not sure if this is too much sediment

I have never bottled homebrew, but that doesn't look like too much to me. Just try to leave most of it in the bottle when you pour.

Funny things you've overheard about beer

My favorite is when you here someone trying to be a beer snob that clearly has no idea what they are talking about.....

Does this look like an infection?

I assumed the brown things were yeasts. And it certainly looks fairly bubbly. I wouldn't doubt that fermentation wasn't 100% complete either.. Although the gravity was just around target. The airlock is no longer bubbling, so we shall see I suppose.

Does this look like an infection?

Well, as outlined in this thread, https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f39/aghh-436195/#post5568342 I had a valve bust on my bottling bucket which I was using as a fermenter.... Awesome... So 2-3 days ago I racked it in a hurry, now I have this film developing on the beer. I havn't tasted it since...

    Gelatin question! for clarification

I use Knox Gelatin from grocery store... It works AWESOME! https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f13/gelatin-finings-53912/index2.html

    Aghh!!!

Well, I figured out why it was leaking. Somehow the valve got a crack in it.... Had to have been either the fact that the valve was old and fatigued or pressure from fermentation / 5 gal on it... Wild... After racking it, I lightly turned it with my hand, and it just started pouring trub out...

    Aghh!!!

Also, FWIW it still tastes good. But who knows when this happened. How quickly does an infection generally show itself? I have never had one?
  13. E

    Aghh!!!

Yep, last time I use that bucket for anything other than on brew day, to hold sanitizer etc.

What would you consider a good final gravity for a 1.104 sg?

Making a quad with a SG 1.104, what would you consider a good final gravity? Due to what happened in this thread: https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f39/aghh-436195/#post5568342 I had to rack earlier than I would like to? Its currently at 1.020....

    Aghh!!!

So my trappist quad was bubbling away, for about a week. I go out of town on a business trip, when I get home, somehow the bottle filling valve on the bottom had loosened up. (I don't know if maybe I over tightened it or what?) Well a fair bit, maybe 1/2 cup or so of beer has leaked out. I...

    First time High Gravity beer?

This is for a different strain of yeast, but same manufacturer... http://www.whitelabs.com/wlp099-super-high-gravity-yeast They recomend to do it for the first five days. Also, I would have to just use a slotted stir handle. I don't have an aeration stone. In theory, I could...

    First time High Gravity beer?

Hello everyone, I am making my first high gravity beer. OG: 1.104 I am using WLP500 Trappist yeasts which have a high alcohol tolerance. I made a 1000ml starter for it the day before brewday. So roughly 30hrs or so. Just to be safe I made a second starter off of that first one...
