    Cold crash question

Cool. So do you just set your refrigerator to really cold or do you have another method for doing this? Thanks for the answers, I am definently going to do this.

    Cold crash question

So another couple question here then. When do you cold crash? Right after primary when you rack over to a secondary? How is cold crashing different than just sticking your conditioned beer in a brew keg and into your kegerator after secondary? Shouldn't it do the same thing?

Fat Tire Clone Kit - Sweet?

Hmmmm. This isn't really fruity, its just more sweet than I would have expected. I'm giving it until mid April and I think it may be less green then and hopefully more balanced. Thanks for the help everyone.

    'Big' Cream Ale Extract recipie

Thats a good idea. I am going to make a Chinook IPA soon, and I have a pilsner cold conditioning now in secondary. There is some sediment on the bottom (about a third of what there was after 10 days of primary), do you think that would be enough to use in the IPA batch to ferment? My thought...

Fat Tire Clone Kit - Sweet?

I guess i didnt realize I had to adjust the hops when doing a full boil. If you end up with 5 gallons it should be the same right?

Fat Tire Clone Kit - Sweet?

"Did you follow the directions exactly? A 2.5 gallon boil, with only the 1 pound of extract, and then adding the rest of the extract with 15 minutes left? Even if you followed the instructions exactly, it looks like it should produce a fairly sweet finished beer. It could just be the recipe...

    'Big' Cream Ale Extract recipie

bah! its all gone. 5 gallons goes way too quickly, especially in a keg. I'm gonna do a double batch next time.

Fat Tire Clone Kit - Sweet?

I just kept the primary and the secondary in a room that is consistantly about 69 or 70 degrees, no higher. That should be fine for an ale right?

Fat Tire Clone Kit - Sweet?

What do I do if a batch turns out, in my opinion to be too sweet? It has been 7 weeks since brewday. I did 2 weeks in primary, and 4 in secondary, then kegged it and put it under pressure in the kegerator. My first impression is that it is quite sweet. The OG was .105 and the FG is .1011, so...

    Light, Dry Beer Brewing

Thanks for the responses everyone. I have made cream ales a couple times. I think I'm going to try a Kolsh. Also, I have a pilsner Lager conditioning in the cold garage. I just hope that it is cold enough. It was freezing here making the garage a great refrigerator, but it just started...

    Light, Dry Beer Brewing

I read a lot about beers like Saporro and Kirin, how they have their own special yeasts and that it is pretty much impossible for people to make something like this outside of a lab. Is this true? Are there any extract or partial mash recipies out there for light beer that is crisp and dry...

    'Big' Cream Ale Extract recipie

Be sure to add another oz or so of aroma hops during the last 15 minuts of your boil. The aroma is great, but even with the addition it is only subtly hoppy which I feel is perfect for a cream ale.

    'Big' Cream Ale Extract recipie

When I started brewing I made a cream ale using the American Brewer Cream Ale kit. It came out good, but it was a little light for my taste and came in at 3.8% ABV. Right in the adequate range for the cream ale style. Recently, I made it again using the same kit, but added an extra pound...

Still a noob looking for advice to kick my next batch up a notch

Go to your beer store and ask a bunch of questions, or order from NorthernBrewer over the phone. Both resources helped me get more efficient, and they can tell you exactly what you need to do what you are saying. Depending on the brew, just adding more malt may require some more hops as well...

30 Gallons of beer in the house

Hehe. I have to agree. For me its beer, wine, coffee, tea or water. I usually have a couple beers or a half a bottle of wine a night.

    Forgot to add sugar!

yeah, go to your beer store and get the tablets, they work great! They look like candy, but they're not...they're not.

    Wheat Beer with Cardamom

I think screwed this brew. I used a tiny bit of cardamom in my honey wheat beer to see if it would add some depth (probably should have used corriander?) but it totally shines through. I literally used like a gram in a 5 gallon batch. I waited 6 weeks before I tried the beer and it is...
