    Bucket lid blew off, wow!

^ video ^ Holly hell. That would suck to clean up. That's why I use a blow off tube and a 6 or 6.5 gallon carboy. The extra head space can come in handy. :)

    Noob aeration question

If your doing an extract kit. Then you'll be adding 2.5 to 3 gallons of water to your carboy or bucket to make the full 5 gallons. The water you add will have enough air in it. If your doing an AG batch then you would need to aerate as everything is boiled. No need to go through extra steps...

    Bucket lid blew off, wow!

Putting the lid back on right away is a gamble, but more then likely you'll be fine. (relax and have a home brew) As for racking to a secondary you should wait until you reach your final gravity before doing that.

    My new all grain setup

Nice new rig. Enjoy this long weekend with it.

    White house beer

Exactly. Who cares at this point. Its cool that home brewing was noticed on a national level or bigger. If someone takes that recipe(s) and makes an AG or makes the original better then the white house did then awesome. That's what home brewing is all about.

    Buying my first brew kettle

Agreed ^ Plus aluminum is cheaper then SS if your on a budget.

    Buying my first brew kettle

If your going to get into AG one day then I would get 15g Kettle. craigslist is a good place to look or try spikebrewing.com. Spike's has good prices and selection. I order a kettle from them a few weeks ago. Whatever you do..... Good luck and have fun.

How to keep the fermentation temp down?

That's the route I'm going with. Party bucket, cold water with frozen water bottles. My daughter goes through apple juice like its going out of style (so I already have the bottles on hand ).

How to keep the fermentation temp down?

I'm planning on brewing a stout for the up coming fall and winter seasons, but it's been pretty hot and will be for some time at least that's what Accuweather shows. We don't have A/C as it's not to bad for us inside. Our home stays about 73 to 80 degrees. The fermentation temp. for a stout...

    What are you drinking now?

No kidding. I'm would love a recipe for the Venom, but the brewers there are hard to crack. I even went back today for their $6 growlers. Hell I might go back tomorrow. :mug:

    What are you drinking now?

Drinking RPM IRA from Boneyard Brewery in Bend, OR. I also had their Hop Venom IPA as well. Some of the best brew I've had in a while.....expect for my home brew. :)

    First beer underway!!!!!

Agreed. I like using a secondary as well for the same reason.

First batch: start big or small?

Do a 5 gallon batch. You'll be happy you did in the end. Good luck and keep everything clean as you go.

    New brewer

I'm not sure how the brewing for dummies book is, but you should check out The Complete Joy of Home Brewing by Charlie Papazian or How to Brew by John Palmer. Both books are really helpful to keep on hand.

    Using Dishwasher to sanitize?

My old man has used the dishwasher to clean his bottles on bottling day since the 90's and I do to sense I've been brewing. Works great.

My beer is about to blow! What do i do?

+1 above. If your 7 days into fermentation then clean out your airlock and keep going. Again, I would get set up with a blow off tube.
