thanks for the replies, I'm probably over-thinking this but if i screw through the aluminum flashing wont that be a place where water can come in and over time rot wood? Do you screw the hooks through a rubber washer or something to seal the area around the screw?

ill be devil's advocate. I just ordered 4 2 piece ss valves from proflow for ~$9 a piece. I think 2 piece valves are super easy to take apart (less parts and such) if you have 2 crescent wrenches and some elbow grease they come right apart. Save the money get 2 pieces because they function...

why are you designing your own circuit instead of going the aurduino or netduino route? Seems like a lot of work when there are already boards out there...
