    Homebrew Shop advice

I agree with everything posted here. Was just too lazy to take the time to type it all. I think any LHBS would be better off out in the burbs. Not to mention, older folks like us LOL have more disposable LMAO income. :drunk:

    Homebrew Shop advice

FWIW, there's a vintner in downtown Libertyville, up here in the north burbs, that allows people to make their own wine on premises. And my two cents, I think it will be very difficult to become profitable as a LHBS. my LHBS shares space with an industrial type operation, and is hoping...

    Great Deal On A Freezer!

 Shimms just called our local Jewel Osco... this promotion started the 10th, and ours was sold out by the 12th.

    Great Deal On A Freezer!

Wha??? Seriously? I might have to swing by Jewel tonight to take a look. Was it located on the Osco side?

Things I can't Wait to Do with my Son

Lightweights. I've got 20-month old twins. Sam is absolutely fearless, will climb anything and usually jump off of it when he gets to the top. Sophia has daddy WRAPPED, and knows it. The worst thing lately, was this past weekend. They BOTH came down with a 24-hour stomach bug of some sort...

    Favorite Brewing Music

Actually, I'll have to rig that up wirelessly. the surround sound will be in the living room, and Shimms wouldn't like (nor would I really) a wire running from the kitchen to the living room, unless I can conceal it really well. Though, it won't really be needed, because most of what's...

    Favorite Brewing Music

:rockin: I've got Squizz on right now here at work. But to the question, we usually don't listen to any music per se. That might change here when I get my surround sound back from the ex-wife, in fact, it'll either be something from XM on that, or it'll be music from the PC in the...

    Imperious IPA Recipe

No particular reason really... like I said, the recipe isn't 100 percent finished, so input is welcome. I'm waffling between NB and Centennial. Maybe I'll go with Centennial. I don't want to deviate too far from a typical IPA

    Imperious IPA Recipe

That looks fantastic! :D Here's what I think will be my final recipe for my Independence IPA. 2 lbs. Extra Light Dry Extract 6.6 lbs. Pale Liquid Extract 2 lbs Caramel/Crystal Malt 20L 1 lb Munich Malt - 10L 2 ounces Summit hops - 60 mins 1.5 ounces Simcoe hops - 45 mins 1.5 ounce Northern...

Cake at the bottem.... I think i screwed up.

Thanks for not taking it the wrong way. :mug: It will tell you the ABV, but you need to know the original gravity and the final gravity so you can figure the percentage :) http://www.homebrewmart.com/alcohol.html

    new guy from illinois!

Isn't that the mascot for Cobden High School? :) oh yeah... we're up in the far north burbs... the DMZ between IL and WIS... but I'm originally from the "true" Central Illinois... smack dab in between Peoria and Bloomington.

Cake at the bottem.... I think i screwed up.

I'm far from an EAC... and please don't take this the wrong way jjasghar, but if those who are new to brewing would throw as much enthusiasm into learning about brewing, as they throw into making their first batch, there would be a lot fewer questions. Not that I have a problem with the...

My name is ill.literate, and I'm a hop head

Old farts? I JUST turned 34 two weeks ago. I think it could be the other way around, no?

My name is ill.literate, and I'm a hop head

I was going to start my IIPA this weekend, but I might not have time to put it together, so I'll probably harvest and wash the yeast from our porter and then use it for the IIPA the following weekend. I cannot WAIT to put it together. And MAN is that last DFH 90 min calling my name right...

My name is ill.literate, and I'm a hop head

So Trace had a bad day (got rear ended, literally, about 1,000 yards from her office by some moron woman in a mini-van who then ARGUED with the cop about him ticketing her). And I haven't had the best of nights, though I did get to spend some time with my kids (at my ex's however, which sucks)...

    Scanners

Got the link... I'll check it out when my early deadline passes :) Truly, I'm not like most of the media vultures around, which has cost me in terms of advancement. But I'd rather have my integrity and my soul than a higher position, more stress and longer hours :)

    Scanners

Because I have to monitor one all day for work (reporter), it's the last thing I want to hear when I'm home. But there are times when I wish I had one at home to hear why there are sirens in the distance.

70-quart Maxcold Ice Cube for MLT?

Thanks Lorena! This place is so very helpful. Hey Bird... so the 36 quart is plenty big for 5 gals, and possibly for 10 gal batches? I doubt we'll move to 10 gal batches anytime soon, but it would be nice to know we could.
