    Do I need a starter?

Decided to brew today. Just occurred to me that I didn’t even consider making a starter. It’s gonna be 5 gallons of 1.059. Beer Alchemy and Mr Malty say use a 1.3L starter. Wyeast Ardennes, production date Aug 23. If I started a starter now, would it even be ready tonight? If i don’t brew...

I tried the Northern Brewer clone, but it didn’t turn out good at all - had that band-aid flavor to it. quite dissapointed

    Beer tastes like plastic

I just finished dry-hopping a Two-Hearted Ale clone, and it tastes like plastic. I had to leave this in the primary about three weeks longer than needed, beacuse I was out of town and SWMBO was just not gonna rack it for me. I didn’t see or smell any type of infection, but I do ferment in...

    Yeast Washing Illustrated

Since we're just clarifying: we're not really washing the yeast. We are rinsing it. Washing involves acid and stuff. Just to clarify.

    I'm thinking about entering this

BJCP says a "light, highly attenuated, hop-accentuated, clear top-fermenting" beer. In my short time as a home brewer, the biggest mistake I've seen in competitions is mis-categorizing. Taste your beer, read the guidelines, and think about how much time you have. You'll have to ask the Yeast...

    Yeast Washing Illustrated

If you want to use it immediately, I wouldn't wash it. Just pitch it onto your new wort. If it's cold, it might take 6-8 hours to warm up to pitch temps if you have enough slurry, or up to 18-24 hours for a starter.

    Traveling to minneapolis

I planned on visiting both NB and midwest, much to my wife's dismay. Even brought an extra suitcase! Two checked bags for free on southwest! Having a hard time getting hold of some beer though. I'm gonna be working from 9am to at least 7pm most days and the beer (not 3.2) is only in liquor...

Got free bottles to give away? Post 'em here!

I've got about 5 cases of 12 oz brown bottles. They range from Sam Adams longnecks to Sierra Nevada/ Abita stubbies. Most have labels, most have been rinsed. Moving and don't want em. Going to recycling Monday July 26th. Wouldn't mind a trade for something you don't need- hoses, regulator...
